Course of antibiotics (not for prostatitis) restored my erection quality and ejaculation strength

Before today I had no idea what prostatitis was, or that it even existed.

For the past couple years I had started to experience my erections getting weaker and weaker, accompanied with weak orgasms and barely any ejaculate.

I've had other symptoms for as long as I can remember but I honestly never took any notice of them. I experience these sporadically and intermittently: feeling like I haven't finished p*****g so I go back to the toilet multiple times, a burning sensation in the urethra, burning while urinating (UTI was ruled out), a strange pain after ejaculation that seemed to run from my penis all the way down to my anus (that's the best way I can describe it), and testicular pain on the left side which has had two ultrasounds and they have found nothing but once a seminal epididymal fluid sack that they said was nothing.

I first noticed my erections get weaker upon waking up when usually they were rock solid. Then this translated to happening when fully awake. It was like I had to work to keep my penis up, it needed constant stimulation.

Well I went on antibiotics for a completely unrelated bacterial infection, but it was a pretty serious one that required a couple different antibiotics. I was on metronidazole, clarithromycin and doxycycline at the same time. While I felt s**t from the antibiotics themselves my erections in the morning were rock solid, during the day rock solid, my thoughts were allowing me to achieve an erection and they were long lasting. My ejaculation was insane, in amounts that I can barely remember seeing for years.

I feel crazy for even saying that I experienced that, what the hell just happened? I was only on them for 10 days and it's now been a few days after finishing and everything is slowly going back to how it was before I took them.

Anyone have any advice or insight? How do I even explain to a specialist what I just experienced? Like I said I feel crazy. Also I'm 24 if that helps, and my PSA came back elevated for someone my age.

This sounds very like chronic prostatitis.

Out of interest what were you given Doxy, Clari and Met for? Thats quite a stong AB regimen for a 24yo to be on.

Hmm ok. I have booked to see a urologist but I can't get in for 3 months. In the meantime my GP has said that I can trial the antibiotics again for a week to see if I get the same effect, only problem is which one would be most likely to have helped me?

I was on them for helicobacter pylori. It requires aggressive antibiotics.

Im thinking acute prostatitis,  since you are a young Man, If it were me, I would make an appt, with a good Urologist.

Ask him about a prostate friendly diet. If this continues it can become Chronic prostatitis lasting for many years.

    Good luck

Can it still be acute if I've been experiencing these symptoms for 2+ years?

I've made an appointment but they're booked out for 3 months.

Make an appointment with a different one who can see you sooner. Long term infection can do serious damage .

Thanks mate, I managed to get in next week. I just hope the one I am seeing can help shed light to what is going on in me. I don't usually hold my breath with doctors.

    Hi Biggest,

About 5 years ago I had a similar experience. I was having trouble peeing and the GP prescribed antibiotics. It did not fix the peeing, but in two days I suddenly felt twenty years younger.

I had bactrim. It can have some nasty side effects. I did not encounter any.

I just finished wishes another two courses with my recent biopsy

Interesting. I don't really know if bactrim is the first line against prostatitis. Or even the antibiotics I took, but it's just so weird that it made me feel amazing in the sexual department.

Can I ask when you say "I suddenly felt twenty years younger" what did you feel? How long did the antibiotcs take until you noticed you felt better, how long were you on them for?

Sorry for all the questions but thanks heaps, I appreciate it! smile

I was starting to feel old. I had to for e myself to get out of bed. I felt better in just three days! I had the a nasty cold at the time. Antibiotics do not cure colds.

That reminds me of how I feel, minus the cold part. I thought that I feel old to myself the other day. 3 days, that's great.

Did your sexual functions improve and that's why you felt young again or was it just the clearing up of other prostatitis symptoms?

Got diagnosed with prostatitis today. Got in early to the urologist. Prostate was soft and squishy and sent pain shooting down to my penis.

Funnily enough it was on the left side which is where I also experience the testicular pain.

I have 6 weeks of Cirpo and something called Flomaxtra. I hope this helps, because the Doxycyline has restored my erections almost completely!

Flomaxtra works by relaxing the soft tissue. It tends to lower your blood pressure. I could not tolerate it. I am trying 5mg cialis at the moment, along with avodart which is supposed to help shrink the prostate. So far no noticeable side effects. There are a bunch of drugs to try. You will find discussions about them on this site. So if flomaxtra causes problems try something else.

Thanks for chatting to me here George it's much appreciated.

My biggest concern right now is my doctor changing me from Doxycycline to Ciprofloxacin and me then losing the positive sexual effects I've had (hard erections etc).

It is to my understanding these antibiotics work differently and perhaps on different bacterial. However my urologist said that doxycycline is not used for prostatitis and the cipro would be better. After not having proper erections for two years I'm scared tonloee them again.

If you have problems with erections again, look into getting an implant. I have one and they are great, better than when you were 16.
