if anyone out there can help answer this. im currently on a higher dosage of pantorazole, 40mg 2x a day. I should be able to taper down in abojt 6 weeks. With that being said, and because the acid in my stomach is being supressed, would my body be in trouble if i were to contract coronavirus. its a super scary time, and doing what I can to not get it. But im scared to get it because not only am i on PPI, i take synthroid for being hypothyroid. so my immunity is low i think, and im so scared that ifni do contract this virus i will be in big trouble. im just venting m my thoughts, but if someone has anything to add. feel free

you should ask your dr. but i say if you really need it just take your dosage as is but avoid going out at all cost if neccessary.
i got a teeth extracted and i am taking iburofen because the swelling is unbearable i know i shouldnt take it because it was advised not too but the narco doesnt help with swelling and thats the pain im having so im just staying in and avoiding going out at all cost till im off the ibuprofen. be safe is scary i know trust me i was trying so hard not to stress about taking ibuprofen but you supress your immune system even more if your up worrying about it so best is talk to your dr. dont stress. dont go out if you can avoid it if not then just take very good care of yourself.

Hi Christine,
Being a long-time PPI user, I was also interested in the effects of COVID on those of us bound to these drugs because of Reflux. In my opinion, I don't think you have anything to worry about regarding COVID because you are on PPIs. The most complicated COVID issues stem from pre-existing Cardiovascular (Hypertension, heart issues, etc.) and Respiratory (asthma, COPD, etc.) issues due to the nature of the virus.
The fact that your acid is suppressed doesn't mean that your stomach is a nice place for a virus to hang out. In fact, the pH of your acid suppressed stomach will kill the virus which is not used to non-neutral pH in the first place. Second, and most importantly, there have been no documented cases of people "eating the virus" and getting sick. It is a droplet borne disease which means it travels on cough droplets that ultimate end up in our respiratory tract. Following appropriate social distancing should all but eliminate this risk.
Long story short, COVID is a scary time for everyone but I really feel the fact that you are on PPIs should not add to that fear.
Stay well and all this best during these very trying times,
Matt
