Crazy Dreams???

Hi all.

I'm at week 10 or 11 of 50mg Sertraline for Depression/Anxiety. Although I have seen a huge improvement in how I feel & how I am managing to deal with things I am still having a couple of negative side affects.

1 being Crazy vivid dreams, sometimes nightmares, I can remember just about every single detail the next day.i didn't have this before I started taking the medication so I know it's the drug. At 1st I thought 'ok it wills go away' but it hasn't & the dreams are starting to have an affect on how my mood is the next day!! Can anyone relate?

2 being the dreaded sexual side affects.im 27 so I'm still in my 'prime' & obviously sex is something I enjoy,as does everyone! I'm struggling to ejaculate which is becoming an issue,I am fit & healthy & in good shape but it's wearing me out having to keep going for so long trying, which is now starting to become a turn off & I lose interest.this is also having an effect of my mood.

Any advice would be appreciated,I like you all went through the week 1,2 & 3's of hell so it would be nice to be kind of rewarded getting to far.

    Hi colin,

My dreams have gone back to pretty much nothing just sleeping like a log lol .. I am about 5 months in now.

As for sex I'm a woman but I must say it does take me a little longer to finish but it has settled down now and getting better ...

    Hi Nicola

It took me around 3weeks for my mood to start levelling out-ride the storm,it does get better!hope that helps-I know how it can be to begin with-I thought about giving up but stuck with it & glad I did.

    Hi Natalie.

Excellent, just what I wanted to hear!!were you remembering you dreams etc to begin with? As for the sexual thing it's just so frustrating,my libido hasn't dipped any which is good but it's taking so long. I shouldn't complain really,I'm in a better frame of mind & more of the outgoing old self I was before so it could be worse.

    Thanks for your replies smile

Hi Colin im only on my second week of Sertraline did you have nausea and light headed ness and how long did you have it for

      Hej Nicola

I still had the light headed feeling into week 3,usually around 2/3hours after taking the tablet. It did pass though, the nausea will pass also. The only side affects i have now apart from the ones i posted about is feeling really tired in the afternoon (by that point ive been active for 8/9hours) & I sometimes wake up with a headache but it passes pretty quickly.

How is your mood, has it settled any?week 3 should be a turning point for you...fingers & toes crossed

Hi Colin, I too have some very vivid dreams, I've been on the drug, 50mg, for 7 weeks now, last week I went on holiday abroad, first few days my mood was down and a little anxiety crept back in but this passed after 3 days and I felt so much better, still had the dreams, now home and first night in my bed and the dreams appeared, not nightmares so I'll cope. My mood seems lots better, I'm hoping I've turned the corner and can keep improving.Good luck.

When you said the first three weeks were hell did you have problems with your stomach by any chance x

      Hi Nicola

Hope your alright? Yea my stomach didn't feel right,it took a while to settle down...at the start I knew how many days I had been taking it..how many weeks & so on..I was aware of everything-any strange feeling or sensation I thought 'it must be the drug that's doing that'.

But now i don't notice anything really & I'm losing track of how many weeks & days etc so I see that as a good thing. Have you been out & about?fresh air & socialising took my mind off it.

      Hi There

I can relate to the dreams. I've posted on here a couple of times about night terrors.

Every night I've had mental vivid dreams some scary some not so scary and some just plane weird.

I too can remember them in every detail and was thinking or writing them down. I'm 6 weeks in on sertraline 2 weeks at 100mg

Hi Colin on my fourth week of Sertraline and my mood just isn't lifting just feel like I'm never going to be happy in life I feel so distant to my family is this normal to start off with

Hi Nicola, sorry to hear your not feeling great. What dosage are you at? With Sertraline you can up the doasge, but the down side to that is more side affects. Do you go to therapy? I have been to therapy a couple of times but I have to do it privately so it's expensive so I have tried to basically motivate myself & find the roots of my problems(therapy does help...in fact talking helps) I downloaded an app called 'in flow'...it basically keeps track of your mood,it's really simple-you tell it how you feel-I found it made me stop for a moment & think "well how bad do I actually feel" & it motivated me to fight through my negative thoughts. How's the dodgy stomach etc, better I hope?

Hi Colin my stomach seems better im on 50 mg but I don't want to up them yet I'm going to give it a couple more weeks yet just feel like I've gone from crying all the time in my last med to feeling numb on this one x

Yes i would hold back before considering going up a dose,it's harder to come off in the long run. As for the feeling numb,I did feel a bit numb & 'blank' for a while but over time it's got better. Do you take any omega 3 supplements? Are you managing to get out & about?

Good, getting out & should hopefully help take your mind off it. Omega 3s,anything healthy is meant to help. Hope you get on top of it...keep in touch
