Crazy itching!

So I had unprotected sex with someone Jan 5, a few days later had major pain and burning, went to the hospital found out it was herpes, was given Valtrex for 10 days and took about that time to clear up. Obviously that was my first outbreak and it was hell! I don't know which type I have because the hospital never called me back with my results, doctor took some samples and tested for STDs while I was there. I also had my period this week. Anyhow, ever since I feel so raw down there, I have had some major itching going on inside and out as well and it just feels different. I can't explain it. Like tingly all the time. Is this supposed to happen? Will it ever end?

It should settle down and feel normal. Give it a little time to recover and for your body to adjust to having the virus.

But is this common? Could I have something else? What can I do to ease the itching? Is there anything? It's driving me nuts!

Herpes can certainly cause itching and tingling, but it shouldn't last, so it's probably just a post-healing phase as your body adapts. You might get such sensations again just before a recurrence.

Could I possibly have a recurrence already? I have been extremely stressed out about this and other stuff going on in my life at the moment. The itching gets really bad at night. Not as much during the day. Even my behind is itchy. This is the worst thing ever.

I don't think it's necessarily a recurrence, but a first outbreak post-healing phase, which will pass and should not recur to this extent.

If you are still experiencing itching there are several easy remedies you can use in conjcution with your doctor approved treatment.

    1. Keep the area clean and moist-free.  Proper hygeine will mnimize the chance of secondary infections and drying kills the herpes virus on the surface of your skin. You can also try bathing with Burow's solution or drying salts to reduce inflammation. This will be quite helpful in the early stages of outbreak. I would refrain from breaking the blisters as this can spread the infection around.

    2. Stay away from anti-inflammatory creams and ointments. Their cream or oil base may provide a good medium for the virus to prosper while protecting it from drying.

    3. Eat a proper diet that includes Vitamin B and C.

    4. Get adequte sleep and refrain from doing anything destructive to your body. This includes drinking too much alcohol, coffee, or too many cigarettes. Physical or mental stress depletes your body recources.

I just called an STI line and they said that after an outbreak there shouldn't be itching. I don't know what to think. Unless I caught something other than herpes which I doubt or something in addition to it. Or I'm wondering if the Valtrex is making me itchy. I noticed when I started taking it my buttocks were always itchy....now it's that plus my vagina and labia.
