Cream recommendations specifically for itching with LS?

Posted , 9 users are following.

Hi all, I would love to know of successful products that definitely help with itching. I have a steroid cream that helps with the skin healing but lately I am being driven insane by unstoppable itching.

Thanks, have only joined today, didn't know about this forum. x

Hi Angie....when this happens to me I fill a little plastic sitz bath that sits on the toilet and fill it with warm water and 1/4 cup baking soda and 1/4 cup epsom salt plain and sit down for at least 20 minutes and read a book. Feels so wonderful afterwards. Then I rub gently my Clob gel sparingly all over the warm skin. Make sure you massage it in for at least a minute or so , so it can penetrate. Then I am usually fine for the rest of the day......good luck

    Hi Angie,

Epederm works wonders for me. You can buy it over the counter. I have a large dispenser bottle by the toilet and a little one i keep in my handbag.

When I have TERRIBLE itching, I use a prescription ointment called Lidocaine. Initially it stings a little at first, but within approximately one minute the itching stops. I also use Desitin, which is a diaper rash cream for babies. Sometimes I get no name brand, but be sure that it has 40% zinc oxide. The combination of these two provide me with great relief.

Baking soda and water sprays have definitely helped. I have also had success with Cortic-DS 1 percent and Sudacrem. Good luck

Hi Angie.  This is what helps for me.  Not sure if you can find Cetaphil cleanser (not the lotion...doesn't help), but it is a great cleanser...non-irritating. I put witch hazel in a spray bottle and spray that on the affected areas. Then I use 99% pure aloe vera gel or pure aloe vera from the plant.  Also, you might want to try baking soda in warm water as a soak.  These are both natural and give some relief.  Yes, the itching can drive you insane...know all about that.  Hope these help you some. Lots of good information on this site so be sure to look around.

Yes, Angie...lyn4668 is so on point.  Coconut oil is also great and soothing. Berberine is in coconut oil and has been shown in studies to be healing for skin issues. And I also do not use steroids...just lots of nasty side effects with them...so if natural works for you...go that way. Much healthier.

angie, I discovered aloe vera after a search on the internet during a hiking trip in Montana when the it hing and inflammation were terrible.  I stopped at a health store, not a drugstore, and got 100 percent aloe in a tube.  Within minutes the itching and rawness were relieved with a small application.  I then went with a morning and evening routine of washing with Cetaphil, an emollient cleanser, and dabs of coconut oil only using aloe if there was a flare.  Am fine all the time if i do not miss my routine.Aloe has been found in some very small documented studies to be an easy  and safe treatment for ls and lp.  However i do not use steroids so maybe that is a caveat.

thank you! I think I need to find a routine to stick to to manage things better.

Can you use aloe liberally as and when?

I do know cetaphil as used to use as a face cleanser when I lived in the USA, so much cheaper there!

A little dab will do you on the aloe vera gel. You don't need very much at all for it to help.

Also, I have been doing a ton of research and have found some interesting information. I have the crazy itching it's been driving me insane...so have been looking for solutions. Here are a few things that I found.

Use a solution of organic castor oil (4tbsp mixed with 2 drops lavender oil and 1 drop lemongrass oil) (Do not use essential oils straight...you must use a carrier oil like castor oil) This gives instant relief of itching and burning.  Tears heal and skin will regain it's healthy pink color again. Castor oil is very thick and odorless so it stays on the skin well throughout the day.

Here's another recipe I found for a itch relief spray:     Itch-Be-Gone Recipe

Fill a 2 ounce spray bottle to the shoulder with witch hazel.

Add the following essential oils (not fragrance oils!):

      5 drops Lavender

      2 drops Frankincense

      3 drops Tea Tree

Label your bottle, shake it up, and use – that’s it!

      Why these ingredients

Witch hazel makes for an awesome base since it’s naturally astringent and soothing.

Lavender – Lavandula angustifola, not Spike Lavender which is Lavendula latifolia, or Lavandin – due to it’s analgesic (pain-relieving), anti-inflammatory, cicatrisant (cell-regenerative and scar-healing), anti-infectious, wound-healing, and skin-healing properties.

      Frankincense – also analgesic (pain-relieving), anti-inflammatory, cicatrisant (cell-regenerative and scar-healing), and skin-healing properties.Tea Tree – anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral, and anti-infectious.

Also have read that many are seeing incredible results with diluting apple cider vinegar with water as a spray...and also drinking it.  I'm starting with 2 tablespoons once a day in some non-citrus juice as I've not researched yet what the recommended dosage is...but will get back here with any new found information.

Baking soda baths or compresses also help alot. 2 cups of baking soda in a warm bath and sit for 15-20 minutes...or if you have a sitz bath use that. You can also make compresses...2 tablespoons of baking soda in a couple of cups of warm water. Soak gauze strips or clean cotton strips in the solution and apply to the affected area for 15-20 mintues.
