creams and potions

had an appointment today, 3 monthly check up. Saw a different doctor, of course, he was very nice but I had difficulty in understanding him. He asked me how often I used dermovate, I told him about twice a week. He then said I should only use it when needed as it is very strong and will weaken the surrounding skin. Told him I did when I was sore, as I do not get any itching anymore. Then he told me I would probably only have to be seen by my GP. THEN he examined me......... asked if I was sore in certain places, said I was a bit. After, he told me to use the cream two or three times a week for a couple of weeks then, when I was sore.............????????? thats what I had been doing............he said I was not healed enough to be discharged from the hospital. He did say not enough is known about it. I did mention being sore when making love and he asked if I had tried KY gel, I said yes, then he prescribed what looks like on the prescription 'Keplense jelly' . Have tried 'googleing' it but nothing ............any of you heard of this. Thanks in anticipation.......... Have to laugh or would............

Honestly...I think your medic needs to freshen up on his treatment suggestions.. Of course you and all of us have the common sense to use our steroid when we are sore ,but this is a catch 22 situation...

We need to use it to treat the lichen, to stop it from fusing and spreading...

dont use it, lichen spreads. sad

Use it too much ---It will weaken the skin and then it will split, be sore, sting and wrinkle ..... sad

dont use it and your skin will thin, sting be sore, split and wrinkle. sad

    No wonder we're confused,

Im lost........There has to be more........

    Thanks Marilyn

Like you said, so confusing, and the doctors don't really help much.

It's like......... Do I use it ?...................Don't I use it ? better of two evils, hahaha.. Must admit I do feel a lot better about it all having other sufferers to talk to.

Hiya ladygaga, I use a lube for sex called , 'Yes ' , it's an oil based lubricant and is bloody marvellous (apologies for language) . It has transformed my sex life. Where i was scared of splitting and soreness, now i am not. The enjoyment of intamacy is back for my husband and i . If you go to the yesyesyes.org site you can have a read up on it. I don't like advertising on sites but i feel if it can do for one person what it has done for me then it's worth it.

This disease messes with mind as well as body and it is sooo difficult to talk openly about it even with good friends and family that this site is a true blessing.

We all go through the mill emotionally at the begining , but over time you will find what works for you and what doesn't .

Stay strong and keep fighting . xx

Thanks for your reply, and for being so 'basic', refreshing. you are right, it does mess with your head, and its not easy to talk to friends and family about it.

I haven't anyone to discuss it with except all you guys. It seems a bit too intimate to discuss with friends. My husband doesn't really want to know any details, he's not unsympathic and does listen, but I know he would rather not know. Typical male or maybe just my typical male :D

I have just got some Replens cream. The doctor at the hospital prescribed it for me. He told me I could get it anywhere, tried to but could not, only at the hospital. Went to my GP to get him to transfer the script to a green one. He wouldn't do it, said not enough info. So I went back to the hospital pharmacy, they do not stock it. So had to go back and buy it over the counter at Boots, at double the price of a prescription. Was I annoyed ? :x Bearing in mind I had to go about 10 miles every time. Haven't used it yet ...... Suppose I should after all the trouble it caused

Ladygaga, A good knowledgable doctor is just a dream for us i think. I know some ladies have GP's they can talk to , but they seem very few and far between . There seems to be such vast chasms between treatments for this disease. Some ladies see their GP's , some a gyney and others a dermatologist and all prescribe different creams and tablets. I've been using a steroid cream for a long time and on my last visit to the dermatologist (different one again) i was put on Pregabalin which is used for nerve pain. He said to stop using the steroid. Stop , just like that . I took absolutely no notice and have managed to reduce my usage gradually and over time. I think you must try the Replens to see how you go and take it from there. If we don't try these things then we'll always wonder if they would've worked for us or not . It's excellent that you're having 3 monthly check ups . Keep us posted on how you get on with the Replens . Take care. x
