creatine kinase ???

My creatine kinase has been normal. This is why the dr says I don't have PMR even though my SED rate is up to 69 this month after trying to reduce to 20mg of pred a day. Is this true?

I was diagnosed with a SED rate of 64 and I was started on 20 mg pred per day over 4 years ago. Creatine was normal.

Your doctor is totally ignorant!!!! That is such a basic fact she MUST get it right.

Creatine kinase IS normal in PMR - it is raised in other forms of myalgia and is used to decide whether the symptoms are due to PMR or one of the other things such as statin damage or polymyositis.

My dr isn't ignorant after all, as when I sent her the article, she said she had done the creatine test to see that it might indicate some other disease. I'm sorry I gave the wrong impression of her...

But did she really say it isn't PMR because the CPK is normal? That wouod indicate it is MORE likely to be PMR...

Yes, I don't know why she doesn't just say it is PMR. She somehow is convinced it isn't. Makes me not know what to do. I can't really get a new specialty dr, and she is trying to find something.

Wonder what she'll say when she can't find anything else?

I wonder, too. Ha. "Oh, Debbie, you have PMR. I did my best to prove you didn't. Now I'll treat you for it."

Thank you guys for the article. That is so clearly written! I sent it to both my drs; who knows if they will read or respond to it. I'm to have an exray on my shoulder, and in that article it mentions a thickening of the shoulder thing, so maybe that will show. But what can be more clear than creatine kinase is normal in PMR?
