Creatinine slightly elavated /anxiety

Posted , 7 users are following.

I just had my creatinine levels checked and it was slightly elavated. I think the norm range goes up to 1.3 and mine was at 1.4. Dr didn’t seem to concerned , just wanted me to get it rechecked within a month.

I will be the first to say, I don’t drink enough water, eat a lot of protein and I do kickboxing and Muay Thai 4-5 days a week which is pretty intense .

However I suffer from bad health anxiety and always think the worse. I started thinking I was in kidney failure right away and now I’m just very scared because I know nothing about any of this.

HeyJoe. With a creatinine of 1.4 I very much doubt you're anywhere in danger of ckd. I'd drink a bit more, but at 1.ym4 I'd feel confident yourrme fine . Good luck with it all. Cheers,,M.

Do you know your GFR? I think depending on your age and a couple of other factors, if your creatinine is 1.4, your GFR is around 40 or 39? You're ok, there's nothing you can do other than a low protein, low salt diet. Be active, exercise safely. Kickboxing and Muay Thai, I would check with the doc. You do not want to injure your kidneys, I don't know if those sports put you at risk, BP is very important too.

If you don't have symptoms, know many people have creatinine around that number. And it can change, go up a little, go down...depending on water intake. My creatinine is 1.3. I don't worry about it anymore. I don't have symptoms and my Nephrologist told me "live your life!" My BP is normal and I don't have protein in my urine. Get that checked. Many people with one kidney have creatinine levels of 1.8, 1.9, so you can live a normal life. Just take care of yourself.

1.4 Creatinine , one time, is far from having kidney failure.  Was this a blood test that you did fasting for 12 hours before giving blood.  This elevates creatinine.  If not fasting, it is possible you ate too much protein or did not drink enough and it elevated it slightly.  I assume you are relatively young, based upon your exercise program.  Building muscle increases creatinine.  Creatinine is "created" by muscles. My creatinine level is 1.8 to 1.9. and this is considered "moderate kidney failure).  Just relax.  The doctor was not worried.  And properly he is taking another test in a month.  To see if this 1.4 is just a one time thing, which it can easily be.  I'm not a doctor.  but I would bet if you don't do strenuous exercise for 3 or 4 days before your next test, and keep yourself normally hydrated (don't overdo it) you will be well within the normal range.  Let us know.

Thanks so much for all the feedback. I tend to take everything to the extreme. I also will admit I don’t drink enough water and I intake a lot of protein.

I’m 42 but in ok shape, so the execercising I do keeps me in shape for my age. However it is very strenuous.

      Joe,

I just used your age of 42 and your creatinine of 1.4 to calculate your eGFR. Assuming you are not African American it came out at 62. That is far from renal failure🐶

I, too, struggle to drink enough water. So I often have to be retested after drinking more water consistently for a week. (I do much better on the water now, but still have to focus on it daily.) anyway, my creatinine improves when I drink enough water. So I suspect yours will too.

I had shock several months ago and was on dialysis for two weeks and my kidneys started to work. November I had eGFR 52 and Creatinine 1.56. Jan 5th 2018 It improved, I had eGFR 62 and Creatinine 1.35 It is May 2nd and I go for another blood test soon for May 21st appointment. I don't have proteinuria or haemuria or any kidney disease and I am 47 non black male very worried.

      Beau,

It is scary! Let us know how your new tests come out. Thinking nothing but good thoughts for you!

PS I've got another set of labs in a few weeks too. I'm worrying about mine too. I have seen some good improvement but worry that it may not hold. The mental battle that goes with all of this can be nearly too much can't it.
