crippling joint pain

Hello all,

If it’s not one thing it’s anotherright?  I’m 54 years old, moved to Colorado the end of September because hurricane Irma took my home and community.  I was feeling fatigued, but after awhile knew it was more than mourning the loss of my home as I have experience in mourning as I lost my 29 year old son suddenly 4 years (to the date) prior to Irma.

it took me 3 doctors before one finally tested my thyroid (oh yea, my hair was getting very thin by then) he tested me and sure enough I have an under active thyroid.  My THS 6.480, Free T-4 direct 0.73.  My doctor started me on my hair was getting very thin by then) he tested me and sure enough I have an under active thyroid.  My doctor started me on Levothyroxine 25mg and it’s beef 8 days and I can’t take it any longer, my joints hurt to the point I can’t sleep.  Trust me, I’ve broken 8 ribs, I know painbut this pain is almost unexplainable but I know not worth trying to push through in the hopes this one medication will work, my readings show there are others.  I’m looking for inpu5 if anyone else has had this reaction and if so what did they do, has anyone tried Armour and have better results?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,

wendy

    Hello Wendy63974,

Sorry to read about your losses.? I have had nothing but problems with levothyroxine and I decided to start researching and learning more about my disease Hashimoto's hypothyroidism and have purchased many self healing books. I have always been one to do the natural healing thing and not rely on doctors. I stopped taking levo a month ago and have started taking herbal and vitamin supplements as well as have added a few of my own choices to the mix of my natural healing protocol. I will say I do feel much better since I stopped taking the medication. If you have any other questions just reply and I will get back to you. I do hope things get better for you. Take care.

Levothyroxin is rubbish if you can get NDT go straight onto it. There are now suppliments that are NDT ONE

Hello Wendy, I had the same experience with the Levo. It was HORRIBLE!

Read through the posts here “unacceptable side effects of levothyroxin”

You’ll see you aren’t alone. At this point, you should ask your doc for some NDT- natural dessicated thyroid. Or use some non prescription products- ThyroGold and essential amino acid complex. You can find both online. If you can afford it, the non prescription way is the best!

There are dietary changes and supplements you can take that are very helpful. Acupuncture is also super helpful.

With your situation of grief and loss, you need to be especially kind to yourself and find ways to feel supported. My thyroid disease also followed tragic loss and a move. Like you, the move was an effort to try to stabilize things. However, it seems that the stress of the move really took its toll on me.

    Hello All,

Thank you all for your input!  It’s good to hear from people who know what I’ m experiencing first hand, unlike my doctor.  I had left a message last week with his nurse, spoke of Armour, wanted his thoughts and sked for a in a pain reliever until this passed. His response was to go to the emergency room, which was what I was told today (nobody called me last week with that response), I told her I wanted a new doctor and that the last time I went to the ER (2.5 years ago) I had 5 broken ribs and waited 2 day before I went in, so a drug seaker I am not.

Since being diagnosed, I  have bought Kelp 150mcg, L-Glutemine 1000mg,  in addition to what I’ve been taking for ages- probiotics, candida complex, NAC, Tart cherry, biotin, spirulina & chlorella, magnesium and alive plus for women over 50.  I also take high blood pressure- hydrochlorothiazide 25 mg for 5+ years.

Any thumbs up or down to my regimen?  Is anyone a supplement they think helps?

I’m sure it will be a week or so to get into another doctor, I’m grateful for all the input and happy I stopped that medication quickly instead of thinking “it just me, suck it up”  which is my usual mentality.

Thanks everyone, have a nice day.

    wendy

PS—I hope I’m responding to this correctly by replying to myself???

I've read up on Levothyroxin Poisoning which is supposed to relate to overdosing on Levothyroxin, but the side effects I have suffered over the past two and half years are exactly the same as the effects of this poisoning, long term effects from overdosing are hearing loss, tinnitus and MDIS multiple drug intolerance syndrome, I've never overdosed on this but I have all the long term effects as well. My advice would be forget Levothyroxin get NDT. If you can't get it on prescription then there are now supplementary companies both in the US and UK who are providing suppliments which are made from bovine or porcine thyroid glands NDT. Thankfully these are normal companies and not the dubious sort. I'm now buying these directly from a company in the UK. The only drawback I can see so far is that you have to sort out the dose going by how you feel I'm still sorting this out but am starting to feel better. Armour etc you need a prescription for. Thyro Gold made in the US you don't need a prescription for. There is a serious problem with Levothyroxin which Doctors and drug companies want to keep quiet, and it seems it's a world wide problem.

I feel the levothyroxin actually accelerated my thyroid disease and accelerated aging.

I had never had a broken bone. While on the Levo, I broke several bones in my foot.

I’ve been off for several years and i know the Levo has caused severe loss of bone density. I broke my finger this weekend. No clue how I broke it!

    Hi Guys,

Thanks again for the additional information.  I have an appointment on the 28th for a new doc, so by then this crud should be flushed out of my body🤞🏼 Until then I’m going to stick with my natural supplements and have them rerun my blood work.  Any suggestions for other blood work I should ask for?  If they refuse me the NDT, I’ll go with the Bovine I can order on line.

    Thanks Again,

    Wendy

Personally I think people and Doctors worry too much about blood tests. I've read a lot about this and especially Dr Peatfield's books here in the UK. His books are very informative about thyroid problems. His way of thinking like mine is to concentrate first on how the patients feel rather than looking at blood tests. He always said that everyone is individual and some will come within the range of blood tests and feel fine, others will appear normal with blood tests and yet feel dreadful. I think, myself think of how you are feeling first, so if the blood tests are OK and you feel OK that's great but if you don't feel good then something needs altering. I think NDT is much better than Levothyroxin, you may, however have to try different brands in that to find one that really suits you. Remember you are an individual. What works with one person may not work with you.

Oh yea, also MtView, are you on blood pressure meds?  If your on Lisinopril, you might want to change, it isknow to cause brittle bones, loss of bone density and there is such a thing as lisinopril cough.  Not sure if this helps, but I know when you break a bone, and don’t know how, something is not right.

    Hope your finger feels better

After taking levothyroxine for 3 months I gained more weight and felt more tired. I stopped taking my medication because first off I'm into natural healing and was raised that way. Medications are poison and people should try to find natural supplements to heal and stop taking the poison doctors prescribe to keep their patients ill. Doctors work with Big Pharma and that's how they stay in business is keeping you coming back on a medication and having more problems it's a money maker. I will not give my money to a doctor or for a prescribed medication so I can stay ill. I'd much rather research my illness and look for natural cures and since stopping the medication and now taking natural supplements I feel much better. I'm now reading another book about Hashimoto's and how to heal naturally. The book is called How to Heal Hashimoto's by Marc Ryan.

HI im new here and live in Canada. I would love some help as well. Thyroid disease runs in my family so Ive always asked my doctor to check mine. After having my first child 2 years ago my doctor put me on 50 MCG of Levothyroxine Sodium as he said I was 5.3 (underactive) and normal is 2.3-4.0

I was taking it for about 1.5 months and gained 15 lbs - I asked him if this could be a symptom of the medication because ive never gained weight like this before. and he said no. well 2 weeks later i had severe shoulder pain 3 times I couldnt raise my left arm and then my left hip once.

the doctor wasnt concerened and said it could be the way im sleeping.

it went away for a month but I had a physical a week ago and he upped my dose to 75 MCG As my blood results came in at 4.0(high end of normal)

since upping my dose my right thumb and right shoulder has also been so bad I Couldnt move it for 2 days - excruciating pain. and im now feeling a little foggy and dizzy.

he has put me in for an arthritis specialist appt and asked me for more lab work on inflammation etc- but after reading all this im wondering if its all a side affect from this medication

ive had really bad anxiety and im 36 yrs old. Ive never had joint issues before this. only minor lower back pain which I thought was from an epideral and picking up my son.

any feedback is greatly appreciated I am really feeling comforted to know I am not the only one!
