crunching feeling

Posted , 4 users are following.

I had my right hip replacement 6 days ago and am sleeping on my back with a pillow down my right side and another between my knees and under my heels. I am not sleeping terribly well obviously but have woken a couple of times the last 2 nights with a 'locked' leg which makes a bone crunching sensation in my groin. I dont get any pain but am a bit concerned all I can think is that my operated leg must have moved outwards? Has anyone experienced this and do you think I should contact my consultant. Thanks

Julia, you have a long way to go before you can expect a "normal" feeling in your leg, muscles and skin. Everything takes time to "thaw out" but your locking and cracking noise needs IMMEDIATE attention. I'd go to the ER of the place you had the surgery. If you are experiencing those sensations this soon after surgery, you could cause further damage just being on it. Are you non weight bearing on your rt side and on a walker at least? Get your doctors attention immediately...go get an X-ray too! Good luck n keep us all posted.

    hi julia

is it a clicking rather than crunching.  If so this clicking is normal and as you say not painful just feels strange.  I think its the muscles and everything coming back to life.

I had it for 3 weeks post op.

I've had THR post 8 weeks now, ceramic on ceramic, retrofit to the femur, no cement. I've NEVER heard, felt or locked up in my new hip. Everyone's body is different. It sure wouldn't hurt to get a clear picture from your surgeon. They, and you, owe you that much.

Hi Julia then if clicking it is normal. I had it with both my hips and I mentioned it to the physio on my first hip as like you was worried and they said it was normal.  I am sure they will reassure you on Tuesday too.

My hips are both ceramic cemented.

      good luck with physio.

I have never heard any noise coming from my hip or groin after surgery, but I had noise before surgery. I think you need to call the surgeons office. Good luck!
