Crutches

Why are we not issued crutches when pf is diagnosed. I have some after surgery and it occurred to me that using crutches means a lot less weight on your feet and even no walking possible on one foot. This would enable complete rest for the affected foot. If both are affected it would still help lesson the weight on your feet. You can purchase non-weight bearing crutches (under arm not elbow crutches) from the Internet quite reasonably priced. I saw some for £20.

Yeah your right Jason. I probably will be on them for a good amount of time. And yes it was really nice to have someone who knows our pain take care of me.

I've been feeling it all day myself. I will say I am considering on taking my crutches with me to work tomorrow. Do to the fact I know I'll be hurting by the end of my work day. I always am by the end of my day from being on the tile floor all day. That really works on my feet. But with it acting up today I know it will tomorrow in a matter of minutes . That will force me to go on crutches again.

Yeah I think we both may be on crutches a while. And yes that would be nice to have your aunt take care of you. She understood how much i needed my crutches. When i hurt they are literally my best friends. Its actually comforting. Sometimes my foot doesnt touch the ground for weeks.

Well I guess I'll to see how long mine stays bad enough to keep me on my crutches. I'm in my late 40's almost 50 . But if I were you I'd go to a doctors have it checked out. Unless you want to have to stay on your crutches. Go to someone that treats only foot and ankle conditions. It may be more than you think it is. It might be something more serious. I went to in some years ago and had to go into the office on my crutches with an aircast brace. Ended up coming out of the office in a big black cam walker boot that I wore for like four weeks til I was able to do with it. That was almost 20 yrs ago. So go get it look at. Even if you have to go in there office on your crutches . Maybe you'll end up getting something to gelp keep you from having to stay on your crutches.

I have been to my GP so many times, foot and ankle specialists. i have had a camwalker an aircast, a post op shoe, a soft cast, an SLC, everrything. I have found my crutches and an aircast or an ace wrap to be the best relief. I dont mind the crutches because of the relief that i get.

Im 45. going into work today on crutches in my aircast stirrup and just a vlayck dress sock. No shoe. How about you?

I'm on my feet all day. So being on crutches all day is not an option. Im constantly using my hand at my job. Plus if i come in on crutches they automatically send you home. So Im just pushing through what Im feeling right now.

I will have to agree with you there my friend . My crutches have become a best friend to me for when my pain is bad enough that I can put little or no weight on my foot. They are the first thing to go to get so I can get off my painful foot in a hurry. People that tell you that you don't need to be on crutches have no clue how bad the pain gets when it's in your foot. Nor do they know that is the only thing to help the pain subside in your foot as well. My crutches are the only thing that help me as well when I need to be of foot but also off my bad foot at the same time. I also soak my feet in a foot basin with foot soaking solution that really helps me as well. plus if you have nail fungus it helps get rid of that too. I buy the stuff off of amazon . I works like a charm for me. I'll most likely be keeping my crutches close by do to the way mine is feeling this after noon. Take it easy when you get home and try to stay off that foot the rest of the evening. Your crutches are your best friend right not til you are able to put your weight back on your bad foot. Take care.

I just got home. my foot is killing me. yes im so thankful for my crutches. im gonna get my aircast and sock of and get my left foot wrapped up. it will be up on pillows in minutes here.

    • Posted

I'm sure it is with being able to prop it up while at work. At least you were able to go in with your crutches. To me that's a big plus being able to go in with your crutches. Just when you wrap it don't put the ace on to tight or it'll make the pain worse in that foot. Shoot if I were you I wouldn't even bother with putting a sock on tomorrow morning before going into work. Just wrap it up and put the aircast on it abs head out on your crutches in the morning. Who cares if your toes are showing.

    • Posted

I'm hoping the pain subsided some for you once you got off of you foot completely . Try what I told you too for tomorrow . Ditch the sock and just go in with it wrapped in your ace bandage and aircast brace along with your crutches. Try it to see if it makes a diffrance.

    • Posted

But i will try it out tomorrow. I have to wrapped it over my sock before too. I have a bad left ankle too and have done the classic look of just an ace bandage and crutches for many of my sprains. For worse sprains i have done the aircast and sock look. Did you have to go on crutches tonight?

    • Posted

Then do what ever work for you then. I stayed on my couch most of the night so my foot wouldn't get worse than it was . I know I still have the crutches to use if I feel like I need to be off of mine completely . Today I might have to when I get home do to Im feeling it more than yesterday . I'll just have to see how painful it is onc e I get home. If it get unbearable then yes I'll be back on crutches.

    • Posted

Well I'm home but yes I am hurting more than I was this morning with my right foot. If it does not let up in the next hour . by 5 pm I'll then be getting around on my crutches for awhile. Hopefully I wont have to go on crutches but then I don't know.

    • Posted

sad to say but it's feeling like I'm going to be needing my crutches to stay off of it the rest of the evening. So I will be pulling my crutches out to keep close by me this evening.

    • Posted

@That sucks man. Looks like we are gonna be couch buddies tonight. I went to work sockless today with my foot in an ace bandage and an aircast. I have it up on two pillows right now, my crutches by my side. Gotta a cool story too about work today. ****

    • Posted

well as you know when the foot gets to painful to walk on it leaves us no choice but to pull out our crutches and just get around on them til the pain subsides.

    • Posted

And I really don't like having to be on crutches. I put up with the pain til it gets to the point that I need to go on crutches.

    • Posted

Yeah i get that. I put up with it till my limp gets bad. Then its on the crutches. So are you on them now?

    • Posted

I'm off of mine for the night do to the fact I just laid down for the night. But yes mine are right beside my bed so if i need to get up in the middle of the night I have the crutches to grab right the to get on to stay off my bad foot. I just hoping this pain will allow me to sleep tonight or if its going to keep me awake. I'm not liking this at all. This on crutches for a few days to week . It's getting old real quick.

    • Posted

Sorry man. I hope your foot is not to painful this morning. You better use those crutches to the car at least. What do you wear on your foot at work? anything under your shoe?

    • Posted

sorry I'm not getting back to you til now. With just an hr of my work day left the pain has increased more and has gotten to the point that i can barely keep my weight on it. So once I get home I'll have my foot propped on pillows as well with my crutches close by to get around only on the crutches. I will be non weight baring on that foot this evening. Crutches Only!

James I just happen to think what I'm feeling through my foot is probably completely different from what you are. Do to the fact I'm feeling my foot pain through the top and bottom of my foot. Not to mention the throbbing I'm having on the top of the foot in the mid foot area. Yes it forces me to stay off of it completely when it gets to the point I cant walk on it completely. a bag of frozen veggies feels good on it at time. Along with the usage of my crutches to stay off of it when I can't walk on it. Crutches are the best tool to uses when mine is bad like it is now. I've pushed myself through the pain today without having my crutches with me at all. All that did was make it worse with me not having my crutches with me.

    • Posted

Mine is also midfoot. on the bottom mostly but i have arthritis in the top of my foot up to my ankle. i also have what is called impingement syndrome in both feet. It may be different but is definly similar. I hope you can get some relief when you get to your crutches.

    • Posted

Oh I've already to my crutches to keep them close by for the rest of the evening. I will be getting around on them for the duration of the evening and night. I'm not planning to even try to walk on it the rest of the night. I'm just going to getting around on the crutches. That's all I am using to get around with my good foot only. But no I am not wrapping it do to it is to sore to even do that. Just staying with the crutches only.

    • Posted

i feel you my friend. I am doing the same. I am actually wearing my aircast on my left foot for support as that ankle is bugging me and an ace on my right when im up and around. but im icing on the couch as i speak so its bare. some slow going on the crutches today.

    • Posted

I have nothing on mine right now. Having a tied shoe on only makes it worse for me during the day. For much I'd just go in with my moccasins on tomorrow. That's the only type of shoe that feels good when I'm hurting like this. The only time I won't use my crutches tonight is if i need my hands to carry something . But other than that I'll be on both crutches the rest of the evening. Thank goodness for the extra padding I have on my crutches.

    • Posted

I wear slippers too. Thank goodness for crutches period. They are my best friends right now. I need them as i can not put any weight on my foot.

    • Posted

More than likely I'll go in with my moccasins tomorrow. That's if it still feels the way it does now. The ones I have are stylish . They go good with jeans . They are the Olsen style buy ugg. I have them in three colors. But since I've been home the pain through my right foot has not gone down . Still hurts bad enough to keep me getting around on crutches. Also feel alot of throbbing through the top of my foot as well. It hasn't been this bad in several months . It also look swollen on the top where the throbbing is. Not sure what else to do but to stay on the crutches to stay off that foot.

    • Posted

Man Jason, if it gets really bad don't try to push through. Stay off the foot and call into work if you can. i would hate to see you go to work and not be able to push through there. What would happen if you were at work and you absolutely couldnt walk on it?

    • Posted

I'm on a tile floor at my work for 8 hrs. 30 minutes into my work shift I was already hurting at the time. wishing I had my crutches to get off of it. It was get really bad by 10 this morning. Since Monday the pain has done nothing but increase . I hate to say this but I'd settle with it in a cast for much at this point. A short leg cast would probably do me good just to stay off of it. I'm keep my fingers crossed that it doesn't feel this way in the morning. But I won't know til the morning . To be on they safe side my crutches will probably go with me in the morning.

    • Posted

Ouch! I wore a SLC once for torn ligaments. Kept my ankle from moving. it was nice.

    • Posted

well just say if that kept my foot still long enough to get this pain to go I'd be all for it. I'm probably going to be calling my family doctor to refer me to a good foot doctor as well let them know that Im currently having to get around on crutches.

    • Posted

It's just I don't want to have to be on the crutches but so long. I haven't had an xray on my foot or ankle yet to see what causing what Im feeling. But I have a feeling I'll be on crutches tomorrow too.

    • Posted

I'm keeping my crutches by my bed tonight in case I need to get up during the night.

    • Posted

Just as I thought . There's no improvement what so ever. So it'll be another day getting around on the crutches. Was hoping I wouldn't have to, but it looks like I'm going to have to stay off of it today as well. I knew there was a chance that I'd have to be getting around today on the crutches as well. If I'm on them today I'll most likely be on them tomorrow as well and through the weekend.

    • Posted

So sorry man. I cant imagine being non weight bearing then going to work and having to abandon your crutches. Did you wear a moccasin on it today? Do you put it up behind you when you can to at least get some relief??

    • Posted

Weather got bad here today and still is so no I didn't go in with the shoes I was things about wearing this morning. It still hurts like it did yesterday evening too. Trying to stay off of it as much as I can now.

    • Posted

Well I knew I didn't have the option of going in on crutches. Plus it would make it a long day if I did have that option with me on my feet for 8 hrs. If i had a desk job I'd be able to go in with the crutches but I don't.

    • Posted

Hope your foot is feeling good enough for you today to limp into work. Make sure you bring your crutches in the car, sounds like you may need them at the end of the day my friend.

    • Posted

with the rain we've had here today and yesterday I figured what I've been feeling would actually be worse. But no as of yet I've bot gotten back on the crutches. Trying to avoid having to go back in the crutches again today. They did help the other day though when I did get around on them for awhile the other evening. Not trying to push through the pain right now , just not going to put myself back on them til I feel like I need to go back on the crutches.

    • Posted

Good man. hope its still feeling ok for you. I am still using them. at least to get though the weekend

    • Posted

Doesn't mean I won't be back on them. It's kinda like and on off switch. It still hurts but not bad enough to put me back on the crutches. It could change before the night is done. This is why I keep mine close by. An hour from now it could be bad enough for me to go back on crutches. IDK.

very sore and I'm hobbling . Just got off the couch to go to the restroom. Very painful on the top . still limping quite a bit. I wasn't feeling that earlier but I am now. Told you it might act up later on and it has as of right now. It's like a shooting pain through the top of my right foot now and the throbbing is starting back up too. In the same area it did the other night earlier this week. Din't want to have to be getting around on crutches during the holiday but I might have to if it's going to be doing this. 

I've had to be on the couch before with crutches near by during a holiday weekend before. Wasn't fun having to stay on the couch . Only time I wasn't on the couch that year was when I was up and around having to get around on the crutches.

Woke up in the night with my arthritis unbearable in my big toe! It was throbbing so badly. I was so thankful to have my crutches there next to my bed. in order to even sleep a bit i am wearing my PF night splint. Its also up on two pillows. I was thinking about calling my friend aunt this morning to see if she can help me today.

    • Posted

it has been so far. Im in a lot of pain. My crutches are close and is up on pillows. How about you?

    • Posted

Like always I'm just letting it take it's course . I'm use to having go through this by now. I've had this over 5 yrs. now. It's just a daily routine now for me. Some days are better than others.

    • Posted

I'm refusing on having to go back on them this weekend. Unless it hurt bad enough that I need to. But staying off of them for now. Don't want to have to see them today

    • Posted

Okay at least someone offered if you couldn't get your aunt to go by there for the day.

    • Posted

Well hopefully hers won't be bad enough that she'll be needing to go on crutches for awhile.

    • Posted

James I still think you should try soaking your feet to help the aching. I do and I find that it help me. I think you'll find you won't have to be on those crutches all day every day. Unless you rather just stick it out with having to get around on crutches. But if it were me I'd give it a try if it ment it would get me off the crutches. Give it a shot and get rid of the crutches for awhile.
