Crutches

I am fed up of crutches. They dig into my hands causing a bright red shiny strip. I can’t walk more than 20 minutes because of this . Takes almost an hour for my hand to recover. I have tried gloves . Any suggestions or I am never going to get far? I think the handles are too big for my little hands!

Hi Having been permanently on crutches for over 30 years there are crutches with left and right handles also softer grips and one where the weight is taken off the the hand and wrists as long term use can cause other problems, search on line and help is out there for you, T

Hi Tony your a breath of fresh air, 30 years WOW that's making my 2 years look like a walk in the park, do you mind me asking why the long term use.

I have soft grip ones and the L/R ones and swap and change depending on where I'm going, the soft grip ones tend to slide now as worn the top surface away I think, I have flexifeet on mine their really great.

Try trekking poles. I graduated to these after I got off the walker. They work much better than crutches for me: give support, keep my posture upright and work my upper body.

I was advised to use walking poles like these by my physio - Much better hand position and less strain on the shoulders

You should maybe get a walker.  I just bought an upwalker.  It's a walker that makes you stand tall.  I have been starting to hunch over and that also gives me pain in my back.

    Hi lovely

Last year I had the same problem with my hands so this time for my second hip I bought soft white fingerless gloves from amazon. They have been brilliant

You can use the Velcro strap to make them tighter.  I got a medium. I’m so glad I got them .... no sore hands this time

    Much love xxxx
