CT Scan Clear - Still No Diagnosis

Hi All,

I've been having issues with constant blocked nose, pressure in my face and behind my eyes (also when I look up and move my eyes around around as far as they go I get a little pain and discomfort), it can bring on mild headaches. I also generally feel 'foggy' headed all the time, my ears feel like they are blocked a lot too. I feel my sense of smell isn't as good as it used to either.

I've been having these problems for 3-4 years now, I'm 24. When I first went to the doctor I was given Antibiotics, after several re-visits I was given nose drops, sprays and even a course of Amitriptyline. To no avail I was eventually sent to the ENT specialist, who checked with a camera, thought he seen something that made him think there was an infection, prescribed me more antibiotics.

Of course I was back complaining of the same problems as soon as my course was finished. CT Scan was next, results were completely normal, ENT specialist then told me I'd need to go and see a Neurologist next, this is so frustrating, can anyone relate??

I have found various posts on the internet describing the very same issues and it seems there are a lot of people without a diagnosis!

I'm happy I found this thread; I'm having the exact same issue! Constant sinus pressure for three months now. It feels like I'm on a plane and I need to pop my ears but I never can. I have headaches and jaw pain, it's affecting my hearing, and I just kind of feel like my head is in a fog all the time. It's tolerable, especially when I see how it's treating some of you guys much worse, but it's so so frustrating and, honestly, just really scary to not know if it will ever go away. I just got CT scan results about an hour ago -- AlL cLeAr! My doctor says to give it 3 more weeks and then we'll talk if I'm not feeling better. I am so beyond frustrated.

Hi, Ive just read over hear GB that taking evening primrose seems to work slowly, interestingly I suffer with dry nose ,a drop in my nose clears the dry clinkers instantly so may pump the oil up my nose if I get desperate.

    Cheers

Im going through the exact same thing, ive had sinus issues for years they get so intense that they cause massive migraines . everything know to man bothers me. it starts with my nose dripping then the area of my sinuses start to hurt ans then bam a migraine from hell. Ive seen an allergist no allergies, she told me to see a neurologist no tumours or anything crazy. I was told to see an ENT I thought he would def. see something. CT scan also came back clear. i was so frustrated that i started crying no one seems to know what is causing these issues and its very frustrating. i was then told to go to another neurologist specialising in headaches hopefully they can help.

    Hi,

Wondering if anyone has had any progress with this? I'm asking my ENT to perform septoplasty and turbinate surgery as I've read in numerous medical journals that this is hugely successful for these type of headaches. My CT scan was clear for my sinuses, but showed a deviated septum and enlarged turbinates.

    Thanks,

    Ciara

I was always slightly congested, my doctor suggested the septoplasty with turbinate reduction surgery. I had it done in 2019 & the recovery was horrible. It took me like 2-3 months to start feeling a little better & now my sinuses are always congested & I have bad post nasal drip so I'm constantly clearing my throat or coughing. Went to another ENT they did another CT scan & said everything is normal yet its not. I wish I had decided against the surgery, the small amount of congestion I had before it was much better than I'm stuck with now.

Hi from me, I've had sinus problems for several years now, about a year ago I had an operation and all the nasal passages were opened. But that didn't improve my condition, it made it worse, with worse sinusitis. The CT scan both before and after the operation is quite clear and for the doctors this means I don't have sinusitis. BUT all the symptoms of sinusitis are there, even mucus is happening but it's coming from the throat and not from the front of the nose. The front of the nose is clear. Headache, loss of sense of smell, fatigue, inability to sleep well, it's all here. I took augmentin antibiotics but it did almost nothing.

How do I convince the doctors that I really have sinusitis? The symptoms are immediate, they're annoying me, I'm at a complete standstill.

Did you ever get a proper diagnosis? My symptoms are similar after surgery minus the loss of smell.

Maybe this won't help anyone else except me but worth a try since many of you are suffering. If you are like I was where you don't know exactly what the issue is and the "specialists" you are seeing don't have a clue either then you could try speaking to your dentist instead of your doctor. I had fluid on one side - ear, nose and throat which was literally driving me absolutely crazy and many other symptoms like dizziness, fatigue etc. I solved my issue completely by accident when my brand new dentist informed me I had an infection caused by tooth decay. She said "can you feel that little lump with your tongue". I said "yes it's been there for years". I did not have toothache and the lump didn't bother me at all but the dentist informed me it was an infection full of puss etc. I immediately started telling her about all the symptoms I was having which I had no idea were connected to my tooth. She basically told me there and then that this is what all my problems were about and she was totally correct because as soon as the tooth came out all my problems were magically solved. Good luck everyone.

Hello everyone, I have a question for those amongst you who have been diagnosed with sinusitis. To cut a long story sideways, i have recently been to see a private ENT specialist as the waiting list on the nhs is understandably long. Everytime i have suffered with ,so called sinusitis symptoms, my cheek area always puffed up and became visibly swollen. This was always noted by both my doctor and my dentist who seemed to be aware it was just another frequent symptom of sinusitis. The Nhs website, for one, also lists this as a symptom. However, upon seeing the Ent doctor he informed me that a swollen cheek area is not a symptom .

I left feeling rather confused and worrying what it could be instead.

So, i would love to hear if anyone else has had this painful puffiness in their cheek area?

I've just found this thread and found it all horribly familiar! My sinuses seem to be a phlegm factory - I get headaches and it's tender around the eyebrows area and cheekbones.

I have a constantly dry mouth too and have had a dry cough since before Christmas. I have to take two Sinutab capsules before choir rehearsals/concerts to help clear the sinuses and their effect lasts for about two hours. As a singer, it's all very frustrating and I always sound 'clogged up/stuffy' when I talk to someone. I don't take the tablets apart from before singing, so usually two capsules three times a week, as I was warned by the medics not to take them regularly. I do wonder if it could be an allergy to something, like wheat or gluten.
