Cumulate food in low FODMAPs diet

Hello,

I would like to talk about the FODMAPs diet. I can follow more or less easily the monash app recommendations but I do not understand how FODMAPs cumulate. What happens if I eat 5 kg of food per meal but only allowed food in appropriate quantities? This should be too high in FODMAPs, right? How do I know the limit since each ingredient may have different properties and different sugars? Can I eat 500 grams of meat if I am hungry since it is low in FODMAPs and has green light? These questions are puzzling me. As the offer in dietitians in my city is not broad and very expensive, I would like to seek advices here before going bankrupt to get an appointment.

Thank you in advance.

GP89 sorry about doubling up of my reply. I was trying to edit posts. I was replying on my kindle and it uses preditive text which I hate. Reading back there were a few mistakes so wanted to edit them. I thought I had found a way but it reposted them. Have you any idea how to edit properly.

There is no edit facility. All you can do is make a new post. The technical team have been promising a proper edit feature for years but have not done so. Every time they update the site , they say they are going to produce an edit button but never follow up on it.

They keep saying the edit function will be well worth waiting for.

the simple answer to your question is that yes, fodmaps are cumulative, but the results will depend on individual tollerance. FODMAP free foods can be consumed in unlimited quantities.

bear in mind that FODMAP free does not necessarily mean IBS friendly for you personally.e.g. coffee is FODMAP free bit gives many people very bad IBS. so continue to keep a good and symptom diary to see what affects you.

It is worth seeing a dietician at least once to guide you through the stages if he FODMAP diet, as it isn't just following a list of foods.

Thank you for your answer. I think I will go to the first appointment at least, it seems worth it, I can always stop if it is too expensive at a latter stage and if I feel confident enough to follow on myself or find a cheaper specialist...

I have read a lot about coffee on the internet and although many websites claim that most scientific studies find it good for guts, I stopped that a long time before starting the diet and replaced it with infusions with mint, lemon or licorice for example which I believe to be harmless. I am not a coffee addict so I just had one cup in the morning anyway.

All you need to do is google The Low Fodmap diet and bookmark it on your computer. You don't need to do anything else. Since you are already online, you should be able to do this.
