Cycling after hip op

Anyone here know when one can start riding a bicycle after hip op? I would think about 6-8 weeks? 🚴🏻🚴🏻🚴🏻

I would advise that you see your surgeon to get the okay for this.  Everyone heals at diffferent rates, depending on age, state of health and general fitness.  The Forum members cannot see you to make an assessment of your fitness to cycle.

Do take care, and don't take any chances until you are certain that you are fit to pursue your normal activities.

Wishing you a Happy New Year.

Yes you're right susie - I'm seeing the surgeon mid January, so I'll check with him then. Seeing the physio on the 6th so I'll talk to her too. I seem to be doing well now, recovery-wise - 3 1/2 weeks - only needing 1 crutch and able to walk reasonable distances.

Happy New Year to you too!

      Hi:

That's pretty good going!  I am not surprised that you want to get back on the bike.  After reading some of the posts on here from Forum members who are still having difficulty weeks/months later, it does bear out what I have already said about the differences in recovery.

I am sticking to my exercises, the ones that the physio gave me over two years ago, because arthritis has shown in my other hip but it is mild.  I have started working that hip as well, and have ordered Krill oil in the hope that it will do what it claims for arthritis joints.

Incidentally, my hair stylist is a very avid cyclist, and has competed in the Tour de France.  He cycles every day from Bradford on Avon to Bath, which is quite a long journey and a lot of it is up hill.  He says that he uses Krill oil, but I rather think he buys the most expensive.  I paid quite a lot for mine, and hope that it gets her before the New Year.

      All the best,

I remember reading about krill oil - it has lots of omega 3 doesn't it? I think you have to stop using it 2 weeks before surgery though as its blood thinning? Dark cherries are said to be good - I have a handful with porridge each day.

Re the cycling, I'm not Tour de France level!! but I do like a good bike ride. Longing to get back to swimming too.
