Cyclosporine and exposure to Shingles

I know you cannot "catch" shingles from someone with Shingles, I did have chicken pox as a child. I am on cyclosporine thus reduced to nil immunity. I have been exposed to someone with shingles. Curious if I should be concerned about coming down with shingles or even chicken pox again?

Unfortunately you are a candidate for Shingles, whether or not you were exposed to it ( was there direct contact?) because of the reduced immunity. For people over 60, there is a Shingles vaccination, but not sure you would fit the profile, or even whether you should get vaccination with reduced immunity. ( anyway, the vaccines are only about 50% effective) Normally, you should not get Chicken Pox.

Best is to talk to a GP.

I was around my son in law and in his home before the onset of the sores, But am staying far away now. Am 47 yrs old and have not had the vaccine as yet. We only found out last night he has shingles so have not had a chance to speak with my GP as yet.

Your initial statement was accurate. You cannot "catch" Shingles.  If you have already had Chicken Pox, you will not catch it again, next time the zoster virus appears it will be in the form of Shingles.

Hi  I have just read your message,  if you log into that area of worry it will tell you what you want to know.  My only understanding is (I work in a Senio school)  the only people I had to stay away from is pregnant people.  I had chicken pox, and measles, as a child. from my limited understanding you can trigger shingles which is embodied in  us, if we have been feeling very low  (not sure) what the word is to explain it, but please in the area on this site will explain in full.  I wish you well as shingles is in my own way,  I would rather have labour pains with out meds than the pain some of us suffer with shingles, but if you think you have a rash  get it checked out as soon as you can.
