I've been diagnosed with bipolar 2 for 15 years & although I can move fairly quickly within mood states, they're more fleeting & superficial in nature & happen throughout a day!
Mood states of more significance, demonstrating a number of symptoms, have a tendency to last into weeks and or months rather than days.
So I may experience more extreme versions of each pole up to 2 or 3 times in a year!
In recent years I've noticed some pattern, times in the year & circumstances that affect my triggers & I've certainly had 2 episodes of both depression & hypomania within each year.
When my mood is altered within a day I feel it is perhaps more to do with my sensitivity & inability to stabilise my fluctuating mood states.
I'm not sure whether this is helpful as we can only write from a personal perspective & the disorder in it's various guises has the potential to affect us all so differently.
Take care

That's great, support in general & support in possible & probable change.
How do you feel about the diagnosis & treatment change?
I remind myself if I feel negative about something concerning my mental health, that a diagnostic label cannot change essentially who I am.
I'm dreadful at being told what to do & as I'm very self aware & insightful regarding me versus bipolar, being the patient is challenging & I generally face appointments in the position of 'expert'!
Which largely, we are, who's more expert regarding ourselves, than ourselves?!!!!
It means I generally don't move forward because I go to my psyche sessions knowing exactly what I do & don't want & always achieve what I set out too! This then excludes any professional alterations to my treatment.
I think I'm in control of my bipolar however perhaps not & it's the bipolar symptoms giving me that impression because it's in control?!
Whoops, sorry, I'm waffling now...
