Cyst drained and still causing problems..help!

Four months ago I went to my OBGYN after suffering with a cyst for 2 weeks. He numbed the area opened the cyst and it drained! Instant relief! He put in a word cath and sent me on my way. However, that relief was only brief. Since then I have visited my office on 5 different occasions. I've taken 5 rounds of antibiotics (1 round of those costing me $162.00) I thought for sure after that I would be cured. That's not the case. The opening where the cath was placed is obviously still open which I don't have a problem with. The real problem is I still have a yellowish fluid ( which I feel is infection) filling up this hole and causing just as much pain and irritation as the cyst it's self. They done multiple "wound cultures" and each time they came back negative for anything. This "stuff" has to come from somewhere and be caused by something right? I can now tell when the hole is filling up and needs to be drained, which I have to do by hand. I constantly have to carry a mirror and flashlight in my purse so I can inspect. I'm starting to feel I will never be normal again and I will have to drain this thing for the rest of my life. My husband and I ride a motorcycle so as you might imagine this isn't something I really want to deal with forever and it makes for a rather uncomfortable ride. Has anyone else had this problem? What should I do?

Hey there! I think many of us who have had bartholins cysts drained have unfortunately had to deal with similar issues. Mine was drained multiple times before I finally found an OBGYN that performed surgery to removed the whole cyst, rather than just emptying it- and it fixed the problem (so far) permanently! Definitely something I would suggest looking into, with an OBGYN who is reputable and experienced with the procedure- I've read plenty of horror stories but had virtually no pain after surgery. These cysts can be horrible- best of luck in finding a solution!

Last week during my 5th visit my doctor actually re cut the incision to make sure the cost was gone. He done cultures again. He says there's no cyst left and none of the cultures came back with anything abnormal. The thought of some kind of infection in my body that hasn't responded to multiple antibiotics and don't show in cultures scare me. I just want to feel normal again. Thanks!

Huh, I'm obviously not a doctor lol, but that doesn't seem right. From what I understand, the cyst can't be fully removed from draining, and there's a little sack they have to cut out while under general anesthetic (which is why so many of us have recurring issues after draining). If you can, and would want to, maybe look into a second opinion. From the dozen doctors I saw, about half were complete idiots when it came to bartholins cysts. It's a shame, for how common of a problem this is you'd think there would be more education and information on it.

I think you need a second opinion. It is not good for you to attempt to get the fluid out yourself, as it could cause more of an infection. I have been suffering from these for almost 4 years. I have had 5 or 6 during that time. My only option now is to continue to have them cut and drained when they get infected or to have the entire gland surgically removed.
