Cyst recurring after gland removal surgery?!

Hello there,

I had my left bartholin glad removed on 11/9, about 2 1/2 weeks ago. Healing hasn't been a walk in the park, but I've been dealing with it. However, the past few days I've been feeling, what seems to be, the same pain as when I would have a bartholin cyst. I also feel a similar lump. Which does not make sense to me. Has anyone had this issue? Is it possible the whole gland wasn't removed? I have been searching for information on this and really can't find anything! Thanks!

    Hi!

    I just had a bartholin cyst removed as well. About 2 weeks ago. It's been very painful so I can relate to how you feel. It can take up to 4-6 weeks for the area to flatten out, heal and for the pain to stop. Occasional draining is normal too. Personally, I am still a bit swollen around where the stitches are and have intense pain, particularly after urinating or when cleaning the area with soap and water. It may be lumpy and pumpy now but it should calm down in a few weeks. What I am guessing you had was a bartholin marsupialization, which is when the cyst contents are taken out and is sewed mostly shut but with a small opening to help it drain and so it heals from the inside out. The cyst is where the gland is, you gland is still there just healing itself closed now. Its unlikely for bartholin cysts to come back after the surgery you had but it is possible, and some women will get their glands completely removed which is an entirely different surgery (called a gland excision) and more complicated.

    I completely get your pain, confusion and frustration. While washing I found that I have a cyst on the other side starting to swell, so yay! Not!

    Hi there, 

    About a month ago, i got my Bartholins cyst removed as well. Recovery hasnt been painful but its taking very long to heal. Since the surgery i had a little bit of lump there and it hurt a little. But i figured its going to go down after awhile.  Recently, i feel the lump getting bigger and little bit hard. I am scared the cyst is coming back or something is happening. Will see my doctor but want yo know Has anyone had the same experience after the surgery?  Can you share what has been your experience after the cyst removal? Thank you!
