Cystitis type symptoms

Looking for a bit of reassurance really.

Five days ago I was inserting a Vagifem pessary and it felt quite uncomfortable and hurt.  Almost immediately I started to get symptoms like I had cystitis and this still hasn't gone away.  I can't understand what has happened.  I have such a burning feeling around the entrance to my vagina and pain in my bladder area.  I was a bit scared that I had inserted it into my urethra instead of vagina, but couldn't really see that this could happen.

I always thought that cystitis was related to sex (which has been off my radar for years) or poor personal hygiene (definitely not, plus I had just got out of the shower).

I have been drinking lots of water hoping this would stop it, but so far it hasn't done the trick.  I am trying not to pee more often than once an hour, but it is difficult sometimes.

I have ordered some cranberry tablets as I read that these can be very helpful with bladder problems.

Can cystitis just occur out of the blue for no apparent reason?  OH says that perhaps I bruised the opening to the urethra, but would this cause cystitis like pain?

Any advice would be appreciated - many thanks.

I have had absolutely no experience or knowledge in this but have you been to your Dr or gynocologist?

Hi Lodge, I think you may have a UTI, but I'm guessing, and if you can get hold of those test packets for UTIs to do a home test that should give you an idea.  If it is a UTI you are going to need antibiotics.  I went through a horrible time of having four UTIs in one year.  I started using cranberry capsules and have 'said goodbye to UTI's' Once you start taking them and the antibiotics you should start to feel better.

I dont know for sure whether UTIs and LS are linked but it seems that way as many of  us have this problem.  I dont think you did any damage with the Vagifem.

Hi as I have a UTI what you describe souls very much like you have a UTI also you need to visit a GP

There is a definite link between LS and UTIs

      Hi again,

Well I didn't get to see a doctor; in the end I just left a urine sample with receptionist and OH got a phone call later that day from a doctor confirming that it was a UTI and saying he had sent a prescription over to the chemist for me.

I was initially pleased to find out what it was and that antibiotics had been prescribed.

However, I have now been taking them for over four days and there is no improvement. Am I being too impatient? I know that you have to take the full course with antibiotics, but really thought things would have improved quite a bit after a few days. My work colleague said that sometimes you have to try a couple of different ones to cure it:(

I can't decide whether I should wait until I have taken the full seven days worth before contacting doctor again, or try to get a message through sooner that nothing has changed.

Has anyone else experienced this? I really thought I would be fixed within a few days of taking the tablets.

Hi, I would worry if after the seven day you dont feel good, and then you will have to go back and see your doctor - just wait until the end of the course. I cant remember if it was you or not but did you get hold of cranberry capsules? because you need to be taking those like yesterday.

I had the same symptoms and thought I had a UTI but didn't.  It was the LS.  The doctor said it looked like I had some LS at the end of my urethra where she could see.  The symptoms went away after some treatment with the clob ointment.  I agree that you should see the doctor.

Like wise thought it was LS it wasn’t on this occasion and was UTI and a flare up of LS when I I still have and cannot get relief from external burning

Thank you all so much for your replies.

I tried to get an appointment or speak to a doctor yesterday, but no luck. Made myself 15 mins late for work by phoning from home as soon as the surgery opened and constantly hitting redial, but had to give up in the end. Kept trying throughout the morning from work, but constantly engaged.

Eventually spoke to a receptionist at lunchtime who suggested I drop in a urine sample for testing, as this is what the doctor would ask for. I called in and collected a specimen pot and will drop that in tomorrow. However, I am wondering if they will know what to test for as it hasn't been requested by a doctor:(

Get totally fed up with trying to see a GP, it is a total nightmare. It was so much better years ago.
