cystoscopy on friday

hello, ive just come across this forum and wanted to speak to others with a similar experience. for the past year ive had frequent urine infections from once a month to once every few weeks. the hospital have completed various different scans and tests which have all come back clear. ive been booked in for a cystoscopy on friday under GA and im so nervous that they are going to find something wrong. Im only 19 and wondered if anyone else has had a similar situation and what the outcome was? i also wondered how long it takes to find out if anything is wrong? since seeing the consultant i havent had an infection in nearly 2 months so im curious as to what is causing it as i still have got systems every so often.

My cystoscooy was not done under GA so I cannot advise you on what to expect.  I just had the numbing gell when I had my cystoscopy and I felt no pain just uncomfortable.  The procedure only took a few minutes and I was told the results were normal as soon as the procedure was finished. Some stinging afterwards when I passed urine, I was advised to drink plenty of water and my symptoms soon settled. I found worrying about the procedure was far worse than the actual procedure.

Hope all goes well for you.

Hi Lynn. I had a cystoscopy done under a GA a couple of weeks ago due to an infection that no antibiotics will clear up. I was kept in overnight and had a catheter fitted which was actually the worst part. Catheter taken out the next morning and I had to produce three urine samples without it before I was discharged. I'm waiting for the results of the biopsy but the consultant said he didn't find anything to worry about. The whole experience was much easier than I expected. Don't be afraid to ask any questions before you have the procedure

      Hi Betty,

Why did you have to stay in if you don't mind me asking? I am just there for a day stay at the nurse said I should be out by early evening. I'm not worried about being put out I'm just worried that they are going to find something wrong! Just want it all over and done with x

Because I'm 70 and live alone my doctor wanted to keep me in. Otherwise it would have been Day surgery. Please don't worry Sophie

Hi Rachel, I actually didn’t end up having it done! Went in on the day and hadn’t had an infection for about 4/5 months! The surgeon said the risk was too high of possible side affects to have it done if I didn’t actually need it! He didn’t want to cause me further problems and because I’m only young! I drink at least 2 litres of water per day now, cut out a lot of caffeine and touch wood I haven’t had one since!!
