Cystoscopy result

I have been told that I have a small occlusive prostate and that there is no need for intervention at present. Flow is very poor at times and I am concerned that it is getting worse. I have been on Doxazosin for some time and following cystoscopy now prescribed Alfuzosin. My GP surgery is prescribing both and although I have asked whether this is a replacement I am still waiting for a reply. How bad does it have to be before considering surgery?

Steven whatever it is you must do semen culture test or/and Stamey's test. Taking Alfuzosin is pointless until you establish the cause of your problem (could be bacterial related)

And the flow could be poor because you prostate is inflamed and is pressing at your "tube".

Hi Michael, what doc will do a Stamey's Test? I understand they are rarely done. Also if one has RE, how can one get a semen culture test? Thanks. Mav

Hi Mav. Forgive me please but English is my second language. could you explain please what RE means?

The Stamey's test is performed by Consultant Urologist. And in UK I only found one who was willing to do it. It was in Bristol. Most doctors tell you that by doing semen culture test you can get the answer you are looking for. It's only partially true. Prostate fluid is at one point mixed with semen (produced in your testicle). So if you find bacteria in your semen- that's important discovery, but it is still not clear where the infection is. Is it testicle only? is it prostate only? or is it both? If it is in prostate you need IV treatment. If it is only in testicle ( oral medication could be enough to eradicate bacteria). So the precise diagnosis is crucial. Only Stamey's test can tell for sure if your prostate gland is infected. I done mine abroad. Cost me much less and I'm under good care for first time since I developed my health problem.

It is ironic that Stamey's test was invented by great British scientists but almost nobody in UK is following this golden standard in Urology in UK . What a shame.

Thank you Stephen, RE is retrograde ejaculation where the prostatic fluid is pushed back into the bladder rather than pushed forward down and out the penis. How does one take a sample of the prostatic fluid when it is pushed back up into the bladder? In the states, I wonder if anyone has had the Stamey's test done? Much appreciation.
