I am new to this forum - have one or two what I think are UTI's a year for which I have antibiotics. It often seems to still be present after antibiotic course but no sign of infection. Having heard of d- mannose would that be helpful do you think if I took it as soon as burning & urgency started. My problem isn't related to sex but often happens when I go to France!!!! Thanks for any help & info

Hi Pattiann, l have just found out l have Painful bladder syndrome , like you l had uti,s , recently l had a very nasty attack and a sample was sent to the hospital for testing the result was lots of white blood cells no bacteria . It seems l get uti,s but inbetween its painful bladder syndrome . I have just started medication for this , drugs plus having bladder installations , hopefully this will improve the sitution . Check this out with your GP , you may need to see a consultant ? Please dont suffer for years like l have done ! Best wishes and hope your feeling better soon x

l use d mannose because its reccomended by the c.o.b site, lve only been taking it a short while and not noticed a lot of difference so far, but early days, though fairly sure it doesnt work in short term improvement. l guess youll have tried usual of drinking lots of water and putting a pinch of bicarb in to reduce acid in urine. Have you tried a week or so os just drinking spring water, more so in france if thats a trigger in case its the water there aggrevating it, could be other reasons. Re Winifred, l also went on for many years with pain and poor health due to bladder problems the gp put down to other causes, which later was diagnosed as intersticial cystitus, l have been taking meds for it since cystascope years ago,   l recently had another cystascope, the urologist mentioned dilating urethra, despite my flow being quite good, but also mentioned cystiastat, which l think is by installation, is that  what you have installed and how helpful do you find it, or is it too soon for you to know, if done recently,  at present mines  on hold till l contact the urologist. best wishes to all for improvement.

Hi Lynne, l have just started a 6 week course of Hyacyst whivh is given by installation. This is my second course improved whilst on the first course , which they were given me for uti,s l had not got a diagnosis of PBS at that time , so after a couple of weeks l was back to square one l was due to have 4 monthly installations as top ups afterwards but now they know whats really wrong , they said l should have had 12 weeks continuosly so now l am having 6 weeks and they are going to see what happens after that l think l probably will get top ups when needed that l think is how it goes. I was talking to a lady there and she had been having top ups for years and it had helped her she said. Diet is important no acidic food , everything fresh not pre packed , cut out caffiene if you can l found that really hard l have got down to one cuppa a day ! Look online for a list of foods not to eat . On the bright side l have lost loads of weight , cutting out wheat products . Stress plays its part in these problems but again , who can cut out stress , you have to try to cope with it if you can . Wow ! I have droned on , sorry ! Best wishes x

thanks, l was put on anti bs as daily preventative, as research shows many with ic do better on them, researchers thinking theres an underlying bacteria in bladder wall that doesnt show up in samples, and the anti bs did seem to help me from having flare ups, but after a few years l suddenly started with daily nausea, scope showed bit gastritus, l,d gone off my food generally due to it, and took a aversion to all tinned and ready meals, just ate small plain meal in evening, also given omprazole, l went off dairy, milk and cheese now have alternatives, and spring water. So nausea has settled finally, but bladder niggly, varies on days, though not the hell it used to be pre diagnosis, the cystascope a check up, and cystitiat mentioned. Will see how it goes, as not too bad at present, but thanks for info advice, ditto the weight thing, l lost 2stone over months, only posative as overweight before, Your droning doesnt compare with mine,l,m a chief droner,  as my son says, being big homer fan, `17 pages back and front`, on seeing my posts emails, lol. Best wishes to allx
