Daily IBS pain

Anyone else get almost daily abdo pain? Diet doesn't seem to affect pains, and I'm finding I have to use between four and six Buscopan each day to dull the pain. I have been coping with these pains for two years now, almost every day. The pains started the same time as Ulcerative Colitis symptoms which has been confirmed after colonoscopy. I am now thankfully in remission from UC but consultant thinks the pain is coming from IBS.Anyone out there with similar, worried about taking tablets nearly every day? Thankyou all

If it takes tablets and an alteration to your diet, maybe you would be well to consider that as opposed to continued suffering.

I take Buscopan too. I take 8 a day (maximum amount). I have gallstones and am waiting to have my gallbladder removed.

Before I was diagnosed with gallstones a GP thought it was either gallstones or IBS so the symtoms are obviously similar.

Not sure now if I have IBS as well as gallstones or just the gallstones.

I get stomach cramps particularly after eating a main meal and also pain in my right side.

    On a low fat diet.

It may be worth having an ultrasound scan to check for gallstones.

    Hope this setlles down

    Take care

Thankyou Sarah,I had an ultrasound two years ago which didn't show up anything out of the ordinary but when I see my consultant in April I will ask if I can have another to put my mind at rest. I also have Ulcerative Colitis which was diagnosed not long after pains started but am in remission and so don't think pains are related to that. Not used to taking meds but needs must,Buscopan certainly seems to help. Good luck with your op,hopefully your pains will go then xx

buscopan wont do you any harm, i take them every day and in fact youre meant to so they can prevent the cramping. some ppl find peppermint tea helps with cramping, as does a good old hot water bottle smile

Thankyou, will try taking them daily! How long have you been on them and what is your pain like?

ive been taking them on and off for a few years, usually 3 times a day, 4 if things are bad. I find that they only work after a few days of taking them if i havent taken them for a while, but once you keep them up they make the pains more managable. i find that mebeverene are better for cramps associated with gas (especially help to get rid of the gas).

if the pains are really bad you could try amatryptaline?

I have just been started on mebeverin for the cramping one to be taken three times a day 20 mins before a meal , only started then on fri but cramps seem a little less now... I tried buscipan but it didn't really help me ..  I have also had gallstones and my gall bladder out, and to be fair since then tummy has never been right 😪....  The pain I experienced with the gall stones was worse than labour... Sharp shooting pain across my tummy to the point I at the time couldn't look after my baby as had to lie down curled in a ball to try and help the pain .., the gall stone pain is defo more severe than the cramps I am now experiencing from ibs

    take care lesley
