Damn anxiety...

hello,

so ive been diagnosed over a year ago with anxiety. I've tried sertraline for several weeks and it wasn't for me so ended up packing it in a dealt with my anxiety on my own. I learnt to with it until several months ago...I'm travelling Australia and have been here since December. Maybe 2/3months ago, especially the last couple weeks, I've found I'm not dealing with my anxiety as well as usual. I just wanted some reassurance really as I've been to the doctors here a number of times now.

Is it common for anxiety physical symptoms to change regularly. Like I feel I have like a new symptom or different symptom everywhere week. currently I'm experiencing heart pains, feeling knackered in the vending as it's constantly on my mind through the day & pains in my legs, especially my left leg. Also just Germany aches and pains that come and go all over. are these all normal symptoms? Never had pains in my legs especially.

Ive had a ECG, HOLTER MONITOR, blood tests and a ultrasound of my leg done. All clear.

Anxiety ty is a bitch and I refuse to give in to it, would just love someone to clarify they've had similar symptoms or that yes see our 100% anxiety and stress symptoms.

Yes Anxiety is a bitch and you need to learn some coping mechanisms to help you and a psychologist should be able to help you with this and some councilling would help.

Symptoms change all the time just to add to your anxiety, racing heart palpitations faint feelings pins and needles are all common. We've all had them at some point in our life.

When you feel anxious write down how you are feeling in one list and start a second list your "good List" with all the positives that you are doing just now, like travelling on your own, managing a job, made a new friend today. Hopefully you will begin to see your good list is much longer than the anxous list. Then look at the anxious list and try to wipe them eg my hearts racing cause i'm anxious and im more relaxed now and its stopped. The sweating has stopped too.

This might help you cope with it a bit better. You have identified already its not all about pills, You have a lot of get up and go in you and you can beat this thing. The more investigations you have done the more you go in circles try to break the cycle by concentrating on the positives in your life and see the anxiety as a minor hinderance. We all get anxious from time to time. Just try not to dwell on it, try to dwell on your success instead.

Keep a note on what triggers your anxiety eg starting a new job and what helped you cope with it making new friends, being positive about myself and others, being nice to those around me , working out at the gym atc and see what help you cope with your anxiety.

Your tests are clear so try to gain some comfort from that and reassure yourself that, that which you are experiencing is anxiety induced.

Yes, anxiety is a bitch and yes, you can overcome one sympton only to find another new and entirely different one pops up. I've had a whole litany of them over the years, from head to toe, please believe that, because I know how frightening any new symptom can be..

In a sense these new symptoms are setbacks, which all anxiety sufferes have at one time or another.Losing fear of a symptom is the first step in overcoming it. It might come back now and again just to "test"  you but if you don't dwell upon it, if you don't give it any importance or think you have some awful, life threatening illness, it's grip on you will loosen.

Perhaps you have this new symptom because you are, in a sense, trying so hard. Going it alone without medication? I'm not implying you should revert back to prescription drugs by the way smile

If you stay tuned into this site you will doubtless find others have the very same problem. Reading them will reassure you. Stay strong and best wishes.

Omg I thought it was the only one who got all the aches and pains all over that come and go! Especially in my left leg! In fact my left everything, if something hurts it's mostly on the left side. 7mnths ago when I had my 1st anxiety attack my left arm went dead, popping sound in left ear etc.

I'm still waiting on my lap results but it's nice to know I'm not alone.

Everyone seems to have covered it very well. I will simply say ..yes...it is common to us all. Take the good advice and run with it, and remember to look for things to laugh about.lol

So if you've had all the tests and they were fine, there's nothing to worry about!

Yes, anxiety does cause aches and pains all over the place.

Maybe you need some counselling, Daniel. All the best.

Are you enjoying the traveling? Is the travel needed? Are you traveling with or without family?  Anxiety disorders are very difficult to deal with at times. Symptoms absolutely change up making it more difficult to differientiate between stress or illness sometimes. I have confused them myself. I tend to want to write everything off to stress. On a different note this is enabling you to really get a grip on yourself and anxieties as traveling about is a great way to challenge all these issues. Anxiety disorders comes with rules, self made rules, but one of the rules is usually change is not welcomed which is most likely why you are feeling anxious as you travel about. Cbt would be great to have under your belt to better understand why and how these "rules" form and how to dismantle them. Even have a phone app to help.I would like you to know you are safe and as noted by the doctor physically healthy. So that is a plus. You need to remind yourself daily you are safe and change is a part of life and can be a wonderful thing. A wonderful adventure. You are probably learning so many new things, seeing new things and meeting lots of people and its nice to see how others live and think. Im tempted to say when an anxious person moves out of their comfort zone its like being a little kid lost in a supermarket kind of feeling. Only you are grown and very safe now. The body can play tricks and feel aches and pains that are meaningless and passing and the mind can think up thinks to validate what your body feels but by no means does this mean it is dangerous or real.every thought is just a thought and nothing much else. As much as most people feel alone in this world with anxiety disorders they arent. There are people around you. Not everyone is mean and cold and callous. Not everyone is rude. This forum is an example.  If you were to except that thought how would you feel? If you were to release the thought you are alone or amoungst callous people how would you feel? A lot of this is how you have been brought up and how you view people in general that would provoke an anxiety attack because you left your comfort zone. I Will say there is a lot of irony that many times a stranger or acquiantance would be kinder to you and more helpful then a family member at times. Think about that.

Just want to say thankyou to everyone who has written back. I feel better already to know that I'm not the only one. I am travelling alone and refuse to let it make me go home. I just keep telling myself, that I fine and even going home I could still be anxious, so what's the point in returning home. Thanks again everyone.

Bravo! Running away is not the answer because as you so rightly say, you may well be anxious at home or,worse still, feel you have failed by running away.

Leaving a place to scurry home when one feels anxious is the first step towards agoraphobia, a mistake I made many years ago and for which I paid a high price for in terms of struggling to overcome it.

Your attitude is admirable. You have a strength. It will serve you well. Hang in there honey!

In australia you can get medicare and access to consultants if you are a UK citizen. It works in conjunction with our NHS. If you are not UK national it is worth looking into the situation to see if you qualify.

This is an excellent site to keep in touch daniel Iv been on it maybe two/three months and I have found it so helpful and supportive everybody on here is going through exactly the same thing just at different stages and degrees, after all, we are the experts at anxiety who better to know than ourselves. This site has definitely got me through the worst of my anxiety and the best thing is if someone comes on here and you have been through a certain symptom of anxiety that they dont understand you can help someone back. I find this forum comforting and supportive and well done for staying off the meds
