Dandelion Root capsules for liver cleanse

Posted , 4 users are following.

I had my gallbladder removed three months ago. I'm still battling with my digestive system.

I went to the local health shop to enquire about digestive enzymes and was told my liver needed a cleans first.

I was given dandelion root capsules to take 2 twice a day.

I decided to start slowly and took one a day, today being my third day.

I have really bad diarrhoea today and after doing a bit of research I see that dandelion does cause diarrhoea but that it's part of the whole detox process.

Like alot of us on here I'm trying to avoid diarrhoea having been through many nasty bouts since my GB was removed.

I'm so unsure whether to continue with this herbal medicine in the hopes that it'll help or whether I should stop before the side effects get worse.

Anyone had similar experiences or have any suggestions?

    Hi there

It was well over a year before my digestive system sorted itself out after gb removal. The key for me was very very little fat, I kept the same diet as I had before the op, only now I can eat fat but only in small amounts. If you really are struggling then I suggest you go and speak to your dr who may give you Questrum powders for the diarrhoea and there are other products. Good luck and don't loose hope it is very very early days.

Thank you. makes me feel better knowing someone took a year. I read about people who are perfect almost immediately and I worry that I've taken this long and still not able to eat much. Gives me hope knowing you can now eat some fat, even if it did take a year.

I don't get diarrhoea often unless I eat the wrong food and then I take loperamide which seems to sort it out.

I do have IBS which seems to be a bit worse since the surgery. it's mostly bloating and cramps. ill just have to be careful what I eat. the health shop gave me Dandelion Root capsules for my liver and said I should come back in 2-weeks for some digestive enzymes. I'm hoping they'll help with my lack of GB and my IBS.

Hi Becky .... I had my gb removed in 2015. I suffered diarrhoea before and since. I was told, quite casually, I would probably always have to take medication such as immodium and that has, so far, proved to be the case.

Regarding supplements to help the liver. I take cider apple vinegar tablets, and through blood tests when I first went on these tablets found they helped me considerably.

Of course you've only recently had your gallbladder removed, so it's early days yet. the trouble is I found after care in as much as information regarding diet, diarrhoea etc to be vague to non-existent.

These days I manage the diarrhoea aspect with immodium which mostly works well.

With very best wishes to you.

Thank you. that was the one and only piece of advice I was given by my surgeon; that I might experience diarrhoea. I dont have it that often only when I eat the wrong food but then it's a challenge to find what THAT food is!

I dont mind if it's normal and expected because I too take loperamide which works well.

This morning I had thought it could be the dandelion root but I went back to the health store and the owner reassured me that it wasn't the cause. so I'm now on a rice, veggies and dandelion root diet for two weeks to help my liver to function better. I hope it works!

I'd like to try the apple cider vinegar. Maybe I just need to drink a little before each meal? I don't think the tablets are available here.

I'm in South Africa. will check at our health shop.

Have you tried anything else like ox-bile or digestive enzymes?

even though i still have my Gb but i have stones... i can share with you that from what i read... you should be taking a digestive enzyme 20 minutes before any fatty meal. and depending on how your body reacts to it ... you would take one say right after your fatty meal. limit your fat intake and only take in healthy fats. dandelion tea, milk thistle and budock are essential for liver detox and to support your liver also. regardless if we have our GB or not... those teas are very important. also, do your best to stay away from inflammatory foods too.

    hope this helps......

    to your health,

    =) blanca
