Dark green stools, constipation, VERY Intermittent mild abdominal pain
Posted , 5 users are following.
-21 year old male
- chronic backed up type feeling
- random VERY brief minor abdominal cramps every day( brief as in 10 seconds max largely spaced out throughout the day but more common at night). This is also accompanied with gurgling/ stomach noises etc.
-had bright red blood(like a nosebleed) on a few occasions back in May but don't have any of that anymore. This occurred with intense itching and burning on the outside of the rectum.
-currently have a chronic feeling of being backed up and usually only have a easy movement in the morning but the second time I go( 2 has always been normal) the stool is hard to pass yet it isn't like pebble shaped( probably #2 on stool chart, sometimes 3 or even 4 can be hard to pass)
- family history of Ulcerative colitis(my mom has it).
- stool colors all over the map except for black but I have seen dark green(looks darker when wiping but not the stool itself although a Christmas green color will seep out from it after sitting in toilet bowel for a few minutes). The stool itself in this instance is usually brown but has sometimes been grayish green.
- seen yellowish orange stool a few times during "more normal" feeling movements.
- have seen bright blood on stool twice during hemmoroids(around the same time as the blood on the paper)
-have also seen two really small black spots on the SURFACE of the stool(like when a wart turns black).
- often experience itching after a bowel movement(no blood)
- prone to anxiety but don't notice a correlation between anxiety and the symptoms(maybe the abdominal pain)
-overall feeling of passing less per movement despite still going twice a day.
- taking Prozac 40mg per day( was 20mg a few months ago)
I plan on scheduling an appointment but I'm posting here in the meantime while I wait because I'm terrified that there's a chance I may have colon cancer( assuming the worst but still). I'm only 21 years old and I read that once symptoms like this are present it has already advanced pretty far. I know it's a worst case scenario but I'm just hoping someone can give me some piece of mind while I wait to schedule an appointment. I just think what else would cause all of these symptoms. Im starting to think it's IBS less and less.

Ask.your doctor for a fecal calprtoectin test to look for inflammation because of your colitis history. If it is very high, you would be referred for a colonoscopy to confirm IBD. Colon cancer is very rare at your age. Don't worry.

What i meant was its consistently dry, hard, and dark green for weeks at a time before it sometimes becomes more normal. And yea I go 1-2 times but it's never a full movement. It usually requires a good degree of straining to either get pebbles or hard and dry mini logs. So in other words the volume each day is MUCH less than it used to be before all of this despite not changing my diet. I wonder if the reason they are usually dark green is because it's been in there longer than it should? That's why I feel like it's constipation I just don't know why it's so chronic all the time. That's my concern

It does sound like IBD or IBS but I would certainly get it checked out. I'm 15 and nearly having the same problems just not those colours you were experiencing.
Just constipation a lot, mucus, and bits of blood, but mainly when I have constipation.
Hope you get better!

In bad lighting it looks almost black but once I put my phone flashlight to it it looks dark green. I've had mucus on some of them too. The weirdest thing to me are the ones that look brown(yet still incomplete and constipated) on the outside but seep an absolute Christmas green color when left in the toilet for more than a minute. It literally looks exactly like creme de minthe. I'm assuming that's bile but I'm confused as to why.

Update: Dropped a pebble last night(cimstipated) and saw the weirdest thing that I cannot find any resources regarding what it can even possibly be online: it was a normal brown colored pebble by but it appeared to have a fluorescent green chunk about 2-3mm on one side(on the surface of it) and a fluorescent BLUE chunk of the same size on the other side. Has anybody ever experienced anything like this here. I can't find anything about this kind of thing anywhere online. I've seen this fluorescent green on the surface of my stools( or leaking from them) before but this was the first time I ever saw this blue. There doesn't seem to be any connection to what I'm eating with these.

Constipation seems to have slightly recided. Now there's lots of gas and white mucus floating on the water and the absolute smallest amount of a 3 or 4 speckles of bright red blood each LESS than a millimeter in length. I was straining a lot the past few days and the bottom inch of my rectum kinda felt like there was a cut or something during the hard movement. It also had a a very very subtle burining itchy feeling after. I think the comstpation irritated it and I heard mucus is common with ibs.

You need to increase fluids and fibre to ease the constipation or take a laxative.

Try a stool softener to make stools easier to pass so that you don't have to strain.

I wonder, is constipation and off white mucus on toilet paper a common symptom of colitis. I read something about isotretinoin having some link to ulcertive colitis. I have been on 4 rounds of that throughout the years AND my mom has colitis. The thing is though that i don't commonly have diarrhea. The diarrhea symptom i mentioned in my original post only happened after going out to eat and or eating wings or nachos or foods that have some kind of spiciness. Now i havent had diarrhea since August 4th and now its only been constipation. The mucus may be mixing in with my "normal" log movements as well cause it often times takes more wipes and seems a little more sticky than in the past before all of this. I just have doubts of it being colitis due to the presence of constipation and a lack of diarrhea. I'm going through a whole week of journaling before making an appointment because a: itll make it easier for the doctor to understand the symptoms and b: it'll likely take a while to get in after making an appointment so im trying to get more imput on personal experiences as much as possible.
