dark sport on scalp, possible skin cancer?

Was recently diagnosed with alopecia areata late July and thankfully the top of my hair has been growing back since my diagnosis. I was given topical cortisones to take to aid in hair recovery and they've been working really well. Since my diagnosis I take pics to track my hair growth progress and just noticed this brown spot on the top of my head that wasn't in my last scalp photo form august 19th. I'm worried it could be cancerous. To be safe I've scheduled an appointment with my dermatologist to make sure, but wanted to get others opinions.
