Date for TVH and pre op

Posted , 6 users are following.

I have now had my date through for TVH which is the 20th july, I thought I was ok about it all but since I got the letter I keep having mini melt downs. They have said 3 nights in hospital which will be the longest I have ever left my little ones, my son is only 4 and so won't really understand.

My pre-open is tomorrow and is expected to take 90mins.

For those of you who have had a TVH how long did you have a catheter and how much did you bleed? Trying to figure out if I need mightiest or if I can get away with Pjs, also were you shaved for it?

Hi. I too freaked out when I got letter but it will be ok. I am now 5 weeks post op now and had similar op. LVAH with ovaries too. Nightee is easier as don't need to bend down but pj's are ok. No shaving and catheter was in over first night only. I went in for op at 4pm. Back on ward 9pm and discharged next morning once I had a wee after catheter out. my pre op letter said 90 mins but was there half hour. It all depends on your current health. You will need to have help when you home especially with a 4 year old as you will be tired and sore. I didn't bleed at all after op but did at 3 weeks which is normal too apparently. No where near a normal period though. There are loads of people on here that helped me when I was going in so just ask if you need more help. I hope all goes well smile

    Hi Anna

You really don't have anything to worry about if my experience is anything to go by.

I went down at 9.00 for my op.  Had an epidural (which I was scared of!) - felt nothing.  Given general anaesthetic and next thing I knew I was waking up in recovery at 11.00 and thought I was still waiting for the op - but it had all been done!!  I was back on the ward and eating lunch at 12 plus 3 cups of tea.  No pain or discomfort at all.  Barely any bleeding.  Only had basic pain killers in hospital and then nothing when I got out as I had no pain.  Signed off work for 6 weeks and it was more like a holiday.  I am now 5 months post op and back to normal fitness, walking, running etc.  The whole experience was a complete doddle, so don't be worried.  Catheter was taken out after 24 hours and I actually found it quite nice not having to get up to the toilet for the first day!!

My only word of warning is don't be fooled into thinking you are back to normal too soon.  I bent awardly to take a plug out of a socket and although I had no pain I did have a heavy bleed at 2 weeks post op.  You really do have to take it easy for the first few weeks but you'll be fine I'm sure.

    Best wishes

    Hi Anna

Hope your pre-op went well.  Very scary the thought of being away from home isn't it.

I had my op at 10 a.m. Friday 3rd April and the catheter and the pack were taken out at 6 a.m. on the Saturday morning.  If I hadn't done my dying duck routine I would have been discharged at 10 a.m. but I had to stay until 4 p.m.  They did warn me on the forum about the pack, but it did not prepare me at all!  Still I was pretty impressed with how quick I got home and no pain whatsoever!

Nighties which button up the front are easiest to handle.  I wasn't shaved at all, which surprised me, they told me not to wax or the op would be cancelled so I just left it and so did they!

We are always here when you have a melt down or the wobblies.

Thank you ladies for your replies. The pre-op went well, I saw the physio and have lots of excercises to do before and after the op. My op is due to be done at 1815 so I will keep the catheter in over night, and I have been booked in for 3 nights, which thinking about will probably be best for me so I can recover a bit without the fear of the kids jumping on me. I know already that my biggest problem will be behaving myself after the op!

Roll on the 20th July, I am only expecting 2 periods before then and then never again!!!! Yey!

      Hi Anna

So glad your pre-op went well.  I can see we are going to have to keep our eyes on you as you might be 'behaving badly' after the op.  rolleyes

      Keep up the exercises.

      Hi Jacqui,

Thank you, feeling quite nervous but think I am ready now, just trying to keep myself busy in the last few day.

      Hi Anna

Hang on in there, if the nerves get too much try some meditation.  YouTube have some lovely relaxing ones, worth a look.  Also the calmer you are makes the healing better.  I know easy for me to say, good luck and see you 'on the other side' and on the road to recovery.

Hi Anna, I had LAVH and BSO on 15th December 2014 I was in hospital 3 days, catheter only in overnight, I didn't bleed much at all, only spotting, I experienced no pain whatsoever after the op, nightdresses better than PJ's because of catheter, I had to buy them specially as I am a PJ girl lol, Hope all goes well for you on the 20th.

    Phoebe.
