Daughter diagnosed with HSV

I have seen this topic but the only one I found was older. My teenage daughter was diagnosed several days ago. She is in shock since this was her first boyfriend and they used protection. I just wanted to ask if there are other parents here that I can talk to and try to get emotional support from. I am trying to help her as best I can but I dont feel like I am doing much.

Sorry to hear that bless her.
I was diagnosed when I was 25 but am happy to answer any questions you have.
I found it very difficult at the time of the first outbreak, it really is so painful and as well as the physical pain I felt very depressed about it all. Reassure her that it really will get better and it isn't the life changing diagnosis it might seem at first.
In terms of practical advice it depends is her outbreak genital or oral? Do you know if it's type 1 or 2?

theres a website called honeycomb which is a support group for herpes. ive seen some mothers posting about their children. maybe that website will help better.

Thank you both so much. I am looking for any way I can to help her.I just feel like these first few weeks will be the worst.I honestly think she is being stronger about this than I am as crazy as that sounds. It's always so good to know others that are in this and are not making it a big deal.

Hi Ruby! I havent been active on here but I felt to need to respond to this. I am a 21 year old female, have GHSV-1 and have really come to find that it is not a big deal both medically and socially! However, severity of hsv does usually depends greatly on the type and location but if you have any questions about the topic and want to chat feel free to message me!

hi 😃
i found out i had hsv2 7 months ago! Im sure shes having a hard time right now, but trust me it gets easier!
having the support of friends and family really helped me! Were i am from there is not much information or support groups so it was hard to find people that were going through what i was! I almost felt like i was grieving for my self, i felt lost, alone and angry! there is so much stimga out there but she needs to know this virus is so common and once she learns how to manage outbreaks or starts suppressive therapy she will be able to deal with the mental aspects!
i am 28 and i found alot of girls and women with herpes on instagram who are open and supportive! i know the moderators will delete this if i give names and useful sites but feel free to message me!! 😃
