Day 12

Good morning to my fellow hippies. I just want to give you an update on my progress. It is day 12 and I feel that things are going very well. I do all of my excercises quite a few times  day. I forget to use my cane and/or walker because I am able to walk ok. I keep telling my daughters that I "forget" to use the walker/cane. They laugh because the truth is that I leave it right next to my bed and have to physically move the walker out of my way to get up! I have a very strong limp and definitly walk crooked. The physical therapist will be working with me on that this week!. I am able to get up and down the 15 steps to my apartment but I only do it when there is someone here to stay with me. I am getting rather bored but if that is the worst thing happening I will take it. My daughter brough over coloring books and fine tip markers so I can color. She also brought over "happy music" and awesome food for me. I have at least one visitor per day who stays for a meal. I will be going out for my first car ride on Tuesday. My staples also come out on Tuesday and my cat comes home that night.

Does anyone have any thoughts on what I should watch out for with my cat.

Love to you all - Cindy

    Hey Cindy

My cat was fine when l got home from hospitals both times you just have to watch as my cat Suki tend to jump up and want to lie on me jus be careful where she/he lands if your cat is like mines she loves to cuddle in and jumps up on mr while l am lying on couch just don't ket her land on your thighs or near your hips as you know your legs are tendor at the front to be careful where she might claw you while jumping up as even if l am in my side she will jump uo on me and climb her way up to see me. Apart from that what what your doing when feeding as don't bend past your 90 degree rule to get there dish try to bend you knee's to pick it up. But no major problems 😼

Thank you Lors! I think I can do the food with the grabber. I actually cant wait for her to be cuddling next to me. I have 2 body pillows which I will keep over my left leg/hip to avoid her landing directly on the tender area.

I am 8 weeks po and am struggling with this same question.  Is there any benefit to walking without crutches if you limp and it's impacting your back.  I hear your responses loud and clear that the pain is definitely a sign of some damage remaining that is hopefully healing. I need to hear that!!!!!  To remind myself!!!!

BTW I have found walking without crutches in the pool gives me the proper gait with minimal weight on the op leg.  It feels really good.

Good for you. I wish I had a pool to go in. Of course its a little too early for that anyway.  2 weeks tomorrow and my docor is still cautious of any infections. I am glad that this question helped you as well as me smile

    Hi Cindy

sounds good - but absolutely - walker or two crutches / sticks NOT one or none - i would think far too early yet !  if you limp you will put the rest of your body out ! my back is still recovering as i limped for 3 years pre op !

watch you do not fall over the cat ! i have 2 small dogs and jolted my new hip a couple of times avoiding the |  but i would say do try and walk as much as possible - building up slowly

Thank you Anna. I am so glad that I put this out onto the forum. I really didn't feel that I was doing any harm. Glad for the support
