HI all had my staples removed today which im pleased to say wasnt as bad as id expected just a bit tender now. Spoke to the nurse as i feel im still limping when i walk she tried me on 1 crutch then both and has advised to stay on both but to lose the shoe on my operated leg as it appears at the moment my right leg is since surgery shorter than the left she said hopefully after swelling go s this may improve or physio may give me a wedge to pop in my shoe however am having the left hip done as soon as ive recovered so hopefully will eventually balance out.

Hope everyone is getting on well

Take care of those staple holes, I was told not to shower without a waterproof dressing for a while as you can get infection where the holes hold moisture, soap etc.

Glad to here you are doing okay after your staples removal.  I think we all think our legs are shorter having had a bi-lateral THR on 11th August I feel my right leg is shorter.   I spoke to surgeon last week and he checked but it is because me r knee will not go right into the straight position, due to the arthritis in it.   He was very good at explaining it all and said he was certain that when he did the hips he ensured that both legs were the same length.

I have found that wearing my knee length boots now the swelling mostly gone that having more support in my legs I do not notice a difference at all.   However when doing my exercises I do notice that the r knee will not bend as far as the left and when doing the push down that my right knee lock is not as good as my left.

I trust this will all be sorted when I pluck up the courage to go forward for my knee replacement surgery.

      Hi Elaine,

I had a similar problem with my knee after hip #1. The PT used a heating pad (~15min) before workin on the knees. It really helped to extend my stretches. I also had IT band problems that aggravated this problem . There are lots of videos on YouTube to show you how to deal with - basically all variations on rolling out the tightness. It takes a while and hurts like the Dickenson at first but you can easily see it helping each time. You need to be persistent but it really worth it.

I hope this settles for you soon. Best.

Linda, I have to be careful of my knees as I have problems with them dislocating... I do exercises to ensure I keep the quads strong...

At the moment I am not impressed with physio, pulled me about a bit on Monday and that was it... I will see what happens on the 24th if no better then I will look for a private one.

Whichever route you go, I hope it helps. I was lucky with mine.

      Good luck.

I still have a slight limp after seven weeks. Both legs are the same length, but the muscles up the left side if Mt left leg are still weak.

It is unfortunate, but I can at least get around with a stick and the pain is gone.

Your recovery will take time and it is. Still very early days.

Be patient and I am sure the limo will go in time, just remember your exercises.

Hi Tracy I was so happy to get my staples removed and remember it well. You are so very early in the healing process and I think most of us still had a limp at that time. Like you I had my right done first and then when I felt better had the left one done. I never could get rid of the limp or problems walking until I had the left done. I hope that yours isn't so far advanced that it inhibits your walking as mine was. It was rough going through the surgeries back to back but I am so happy I had it done now. For the first time in a year and a half I have been able to walk normal, without any walking aid and am getting my life back. It is amazing to be so much better is all I can say. So if you have rough days just remember their is a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Hang in there, and wishing you well...Barb
