Day 13 after posterior repair for rectocele...

....and I feel as if there is something fallen or lying flat or like a platform at the back base of my vagina; horrible

Thought I saw a blue-coloured stitch.

Struggling to get BMs to the right consistency.

Does the bulgy vaginal feeling ever go away?? I just don't know what I 'should' be feeling one way or another 😣😣

Do you think it could be constipation causing the pressure where it is harder to have a BM so soon post op?

No. My question wasn't about constipation. I'm not constipated. I'm talking about the bulgey vaginal feeling.

      Hi Ruth

I called my doctor about the same thing and talked to the medical assistant and she told me it was swelling and if the surgery had failed that the prolapse would literally be fallen out of my body. I told her it felt like I was sitting on a ball. She said to stay off my feet and elevate my legs and use an ice pack for about 15 mins every few hours. Also take Ibuprofen. It’s helped me feel better down there. I was doing too much too soon. I hope this helps.

    Hi Ruth

I had anterior and posterior repair and a few other things. It felt very bulgy but I expect as it is all swollen  that may well explain.  At 20 days it is still very early. I am 6 weeks now and as I have had lots and lots of rest  and have not put the area under any strain things have settled down.

My naturopath said to have a probiotic everyday and kombutcha to get all the bacteria in your bowel back into balance  and thriving.

I would never advise but your doctor is the one to check in on even by phone if you are really concerned.

If you get the reassurance you need  then you can relax and focus on every day being a healing day.

    Best wishes

Thanks so much Peta! Feel reassured now; I'm a bit of a worrier which doesn't help. i am resting most of the day - only up for showers and walks round house etc - as I need to get back to work at 6 wks, so 4 to go. Still on laxitives and panadol. I'm sure it will get better - my silly fears think the bulgey feeling is the whole back wall collapsed in again; when really its probably just stitches and swelling I feel. Sigh. Patience, i need- so thank you for your help!

I have had 3 pelvic reconstructions. This time being much wiser I know that the time frames for doing things are too soon and the extent of this type of surgery is often trivialised.....at 6 weeks you would not have even healed.

There is such a high percentage of repeat prolapse surgeries and yet women are made to feel they should be getting back into their full life which for many in on your feet all day carrying lifting etc. and yet there has been no changes to the info given to women post op.

If you can't change the surgery then all you can do is give your sliced and stitched areas the best chance to heal and be as strong as it can be. This area of our bodies supports two thirds of our body weight.

I can assure you ...you won't want to be lining up for the third time with your very little bag of hope beside you.

      Best wishes to all   Peta

I feel a vaginal bulging all the time, not (just) when pooing. However, I'm only just two Weeks post-op today! So Im sure that what I feel is normal swelling.

      These posts have been reassuring...R

Hi, yep, but its not when I poo. Its in my vagina, right at the entrance like a day old very full, crooked tampon! All day.

I spend all day lying down still.

I understand from these posts that its entirely normal, i hope. I still have red spots of blood on occasion but thats mostly stopped and just mainly a browny discharge.

      So - i keep resting! R
