Day 15

Hi everyone. I'm now on day 15 post op and wondered if anyone else is at roughly the same stage of recovery. My issue is that since day 9ish I've been unable to have a bm without sitting on a sitz bath whilst doing it. The pain of a bm without the hot water is just too sore. Is this normal? X

I'm eating correctly, taking meds and drinking as I should and yet I'm still extremely sore. My bm aren't constipated yet they're still very sore to pass and I'm still getting the spasms for a few hours after x

Have you tried squatting rather than sitting over the toilet? I purchased a squaty potty which helps. Or just squat on top of the toilet. We aren't designed to 'sit' when we have a BM.

Yep Darren. Bought one before the op and started using it straight away but doesn't help with my pain x

Are you taking medication for BM. I was given lactulose and fybogel which really helped me. I drank lots of water. For breakfast I had bran flakes with either raspberries or blackberries. Eat a high fibre diet. After each BM I sat in a bath. Do not force the BM it should j6st cone it's self.

I don't think it's normal to still have that much pain that far out of recovery. I just had a hemorrdectomy Wed March 21st and I'm on day 5 now and feeling great. I've been taking tylenol 1000mg every 6 hours and motrin 800mg every 8 hours and a occasional roxicodone 5mg for breakthrough burning pain. I had a bm on day 3 and it was fine. Just a little burning after. I think the pain with the hemorrhoids was worse than the pain after surgery for sure. I'm sorry you're having such a hard time. I drink metamucil sugar free 2 times a day to add that extra bulking fiber and I've been taking senakot-s 4 tabs in the morning plus I drank castor oil 1 tbsp. before bed to also help make sure I have an easy BM. Milk of Magnesia helps too. But definitely the metamucil 2-3 times a day. That extra fiber helps bulk it up. Senakot-S is the stool softener/laxative of choice for me. It works great and doesn't cause cramping plus it already has colace added in it.

And get a squatty potty. They sell them at Bed Bath and Beyond and Amazon. It's been a lifesaver for me. Ever since I first got the hemorrhoids and the anal fissure 2 years ago I can't live without the squatty potty. Lol! I even bought one for the nurses bathroom at the hospital and they joked at first but now they all use it too. Our bodies are meant to be in a squatting position during BMs and it really does make a huge difference in the amount of time spent on the toilet.

Thanks LabourRN I bought a squat step and sitz bath before my op and use them all the time. Still having bad pain on bm though and the spasms afterwards. I also still cannot have a bm unless I'm sitting in the sitz bath as the pain is too much x

Did you take any laxatives... I am having bleeding stools although mine was a minor laser surgery to remove internal Hemorrhoids.

I'm still bleeding for almost every bm. Even though they're soft I'm still in pain when I go and getting bad spasms for hours after x

He didn't really go into the effects of the surgery tbh. He just gave me a two week sick note and an appointment for 2nd May x
