Day 17 of setraline.... anxiety at a high
Posted , 5 users are following.
Hi i am on day 17 of 25mg of setraline and the only thing that seems to have improved so far is my sleep, which is great. However, my anxiety seems to be at a high at the mo and i feel like im forcing myself to breath constantly. Im starting to wonder if these are the wrong tablets for me?

Bless you. This is quite normal (daft word really) for this drug. You are doing the right thing with the breathing but maybe you need to use that as the relaxer by slowing it down as you lie down (if possible). Concentrate on your breathing, eyes closed, one hand on chest, one hand on belly. Breathe in for 4 through nose, hold for two, then berathe out through mouth for four. Conunt four and repeat, keep repeating . Feel what your body does as you breathe and focus your thinking on your chest and belly. Imagine the cool air going in and the warm air flowing out. Get into a nice rhythm. Keep doing this for ten minutes if you can but maybe just get into a nice gentle breathing pattern after 3 or 4 minutes. Remember a lovely place and think your self into it. Notice the surroundings, Enjoy the peace. For the last two minutes every time you breathe out, say relax in a whisper. Feel your body (particularly the shoulders and arms) relax and 'let go'. feel the tension melting away.
Do this as many time s as you need.
Try it, you can't lose anything but a few minutes.
All the best.
Phil
P.S. In two weeks you will feel like a new person as the drug settles in and you learn to handle it. Hang in there.

Head wise I'm stable but I was 'glutened' yesterday afternoon and lost about 6 hours.

Hi Kathryn these are definitely side effects of the tablets. I have had the same but you are lucky if that is the only side effect you have had. Mine have been panic attacks that lasted 7 hours and shaking uncontrollably for hours also the same as you with the breathing. Best to speak to a doctor about it but it's likely that it won't persist as side effects usually don't last that long
