Day 20.

Hello my friends, well it's day 20, had a good day yesterday, relatively speaking. Managed to get in the shower to wash my hair, after much deliberating, got about the house more, even cooked  Daisy's chicken (our little staffy). Woke this morning full of aches and pains again, hoping that will settle down a bit as the day wears on. Had a bit of a weep yesterday, because I broke my grabby thingy, it felt like the end of the world, anyway, my husband came to the rescue and went to keep able and bought me another one, oh the relief, I rely on that thingy so much. Anyway, hope you all have a good day. Love and hugs.

Its day 31 for me since i left hospital.  The first couple of weeks were definately the worst you feel so helpless.  It does get better, each day you see a little improvement and even though some days you feel as if you are having a bad day it is just another day on the road to recovery.  I am now walking without crutches, albeit a bit lopsided sometimes, and the physio told me to march and swing my arms to keep myself straight, but I get a few funny looks.  Still back to work and driving in a couple of weeks i hope.  Hope your recovery progresses well Julia.

Hello Alison, glad to hear your on the mend at the 31 day stage. Good luck with the driving, and work. I really miss the driving part of all this, and even missing the routine of work, and work mates. It's still early days I suppose. Just put my make up on, ready for anything now, strange how make up can be so empowering. Warmest wishes. Xxxx

Hi Julia. I'm 12 weeks now and day 20 is still relatively early in the healing process. I had 3 grabbers I bought for a £1. I still rely on them now.

The good news is it will get better it's ok to get upset I did on many occasions.

I had a bath for the 1st time this week was really scared so just sat there for a while and got out lol.

I've have one every day and relax and enjoy it.

The aches and pains are strange as sometimes they appear for no apparent reason and then set you back for a bit.

On a positive note I was driving at 6 weeks and back at work at 7 weeks. My restrictions were on for 12 weeks which was tough but I learnt how to bend etc.

I'm going abroad in 5 weeks and it will be the 1st time I will be able to walk around without pain or my terrible limp. I'm so grateful for this operation it's changed my life. Try rest when you can and keep up with the exercises. You will be feeling fabulous soon. Wishing you a speedy recovery.

Hello Sue, very encouraging reply, thank you. I'm having some strange clicky feelings today when I walk, mainly in the knee area, is this normal chick. I'm looking forward to long journeys, without the fear of not being able to get out of the car, without such pain. I've got a shower not a bath, so it's much easier  for me, but still, what a worry.  Hope you have a great time on holiday, that will be a great boost to your recovery. Warmest wishes. Xxx

Hi Julia thanks, I don't have much experience of clicking but I've read it on here a lot. I did get pain in my knees and ankles in the early weeks. I used to worry about everything from stiffness aches and wound pain. I still get these things but I am more relaxed now. I think going back to work took my mind of it another focus instead.

You will soon be posting your achievements it seems a long time coming but it will pass. Each day soon you will see an improvement.

Chin up as we say in Yorkshire lol

I am 6 weeks in as of today and I am off to the physio in a couple of hours.  It is obviously different in different countries as far as the 'what you can do rules' are concerned.  I live in South Africa.  I am hoping they will give me the go-ahead for driving today but last week the physio told me "no driving until your left leg can bend up a bit better" - clutch leg.  Fingers crossed.  I feel great in myself and still a bit tender, have cut right back on the medication - yippee.

It will get better Julia, as frustrating as it is you just have to give yourself time.  I was in hospital for 6 days and thought I would never walk again but as the days and weeks pass it does get better.  The human body is amazing how it heals itself.

Just stick to the rules, don't put yourself at risk it is not worth it.

Hello Patricia, I was having those feelings too, the ones where you think, oh no, I'm never going to walk again, what have I done, but it didn't take long to get down to one crutch. I think there is a big difference, as far as the rules go, not only between countries, but regions also. I think the ability to move your leg from pedal to pedal is the Biggy as far as driving is concerned, you have to be able to make some quick moves while driving. I've learnt a lot from all the kind people on this site about not pushing myself too far, maybe even relaxed a bit too much at times. Thank you for your reassurance chick. Warmest wishes. Julia. Xxxx

Day 20!! That is awesome Julia. I sure understand that little things can seem like the end of the world. I felt frustrated a lot when I couldn't do something. I can encourge you by saying that I am now 2 1/2 months post op and until I read your post I had forgotten all about the "grabby thing". The very same exact "grabby thing" that I felt like my life depended on just about 8 weeks ago. That will happen for you too. I am so glad you come on this site!! It also saved me !!

Hello Cindy, glad to hear your dependence on the grabby thing is over. I'm looking forward to being able to bend down, even putting your nickers on is an ordeal.  I'm treating my grabby thing with a bit more respect now. Yes chick, those little things, that we never had to think about before mean so much. The last 2 1/2 weeks have gone by so fast, where does the time go. Thank you for your encouragement, means such a lot when your stuck at home indulging in all those niggly fears. Warmest wishes chick. Xxx

I remember how I wished I had taken my grabber thingy with me when I went grocery shopping by myself !!!  when I needed something from bottom shelves , I did the golfer's bend as gracefully as possible but endagered my life - hanging on to the trolley or some higher shelf  ... but there were also lovely strangers who asked if I needed help ...

Oh yes Renee, the good old golfers bend. Your such a soldier, if I had to do the shopping I would have starved by now. I have relied heavily on my husband for those tasks, a couple of weeks ago I wouldn't have trusted him to do the big shop, he's got a sweet tooth, things like meals go right out of his head when he's confronted by all those yummy distractions. It's so refreshing to know that there's still kind people who will help a damsel in distress. Warm wishes chick. Xxx
