Day 29 post op

hi to everyone

Am day 29 after my hip op and really pleased with how my recovery is going so much changed for the better from week two , still using one stick when out as do feel more in control with it but i will hopefully ditching it as soon as am comfortable too , only take a pain killer when needed, still struggling to sleep on my back but i think i always will , less and less numb bum feelings and walking further everyday.

am surprised i still cant lift my leg/knee up enough to put my sock on , do a shoe lace up etc , its just the same as before the op but without the sharp pain, has anyone else noticed this please ?

many thanks

    Hi flocker

Are you still doing your exercises and stretches as it does get easier with persistence . Your ass cheek will still be tight and a bit swollen . I'm 12 weeks tomorrow and I am sure It was still a bit awkward at week 4

hi. pleased you're doing so well. as far as sock and laces goes I was advised not to go over the 90 degree rule for 10 weeks for the posterior approach. hopefully you've got an information book / sheet telling you what you can cant do.

I'm 21 weeks tomorrow and was pleasantly surprised this week to be able to easily put socks on - I'd not tried before as didn't need any but the weather's got colder. I can now easily pick things off the floor etc which I've not been able to do for some time really.

anyway hope you're recovery continues in the excellent way it is doing: )

hi. think we all expect things to improve dramatically immediately if I'm honest. it takes time. but seems to vary so much for everyone. but keep at it it does get better- often suddenly as well 😃

    Hi,

I'm 23 days post op. I can just about manage to put my socks on and I ditched the crutches a week ago.

My surgeon told me that there is no evidence that sleeping on your side will cause any damage.. use a cushion between your knees if you're laying on your good side. I could never sleep on my back either!

Keeping up with the exercises is key to regaining flexibility. good luck

It's been 60 days since i had a total hip replacement. so far so good. I used a walker for about 6 weeks and started using a cane 3 weeks ago so a big improvement. At first I was terrified to have surgery but so glad i did it. i remember walking into the OR and they started hooking me up to machines and I started to freak out. I told the nurses I changed my mind about having surgery. AND than all of a sudden i could hear someone

telling me I was in the recovery room and they were waiting for a bed for me. I did not

hear and feel a thing during operation. it felt

like a few mins went by and it was done lol. Was in alot of pain at first for awhile but

no pain anymore. i kind of forget what the older hip pain felt like.

I have pain when i walk but think its just from the incision, the back of my leg still hurts a bit

and i am still limping a bit. I can walk around the house without a cane, go up and down the stairs with no problem. So it is getting easier. I cannot wait to go back to work, I go see surgeon again at the end of November.

i am so happy that i got my new hip it was worth the pain from surgery. The

surgeon had no idea how i was walking on my old hip, he said it was so damaged.
