Day 3 or 4 depending on who is counting

Thank you to the people who helped calm my nerves before I came into hospital on Thursday. I was operated on the same day and must be doing ok as they are sending me home today..........with no stockings as I had ankle pumps. Yippee!! The first night I wondered who it was snoring that loud, but it was the pump! Felt pretty grotty for a couple of days, but today have felt better, walked rather unsteadily with 2 sticks and went up one step and down the other side, did some standing up exercises which were not to bad. Getting in and out of bed is the main problem, hurts badly but am assured it will get better. Haven't eaten very much, tea and toast mostly, feel quite like a Georgian lady in a decline!!

Tiredness comes over me in waves but was aware it would from reading all the posts for which thank you. Mr Auld has been lovely as he was before, restores your faith in Doctors. He thinks I am 3 days on whereas I thought I was 4, seems he does not count the Thursday. The private hospital has been ok, room to myself with ensuite, but I wouldn't say the nursing was of any higher standard than the NHS, the only thing I gained by going privately was no waiting time, and possibly the separate room. Now waiting for Mr Auld to come in and sign me off.

Thanks again to all the lovely people who replied to me and thought about me.

Margaret

Hip hip hooray Margaret. My experience has been tiredness for a week to 10 days. I am into week 4 and sadly the last 2 days been in pain. Maybe I twisted badly who knows. So resting and chilling out

Hope you enjoy being home. I found s daily diary helpful to look back on to see how far I have come. If you solve the sleep issues get posting

    Keep well

That's all good to hear Margaret.

All sounds very familiar, the start of the recovery journey. Keep posting as it is definitely helpful to have support of other hippies.

This forum has helped me enormously.

    Wishing you all the best

Well done you! Please rest when you get home! Where did you have your hip done? Have they given you a plastic sheet to help with getting out of bed? If not you could use a dustbin sack! As you will need help! Good luck! Regards Amanda

Hi Margaret welcome to the other side !

I had ankle pumps too, really good I thought better than horrible stockings lol I like the feel and the sound helped to lull me to sleep I thought.

You will feel tired, so just rest, sleep when you can but it will all get better, sleeping, pain, movement etc.

    Onwards and upwards.

    Hi

glad everything went ok. Tiredness and getting in and out of bed will recede as you get further into recovery. I was in a private hospital under the NHS and had a private room, good food and the nurses answered the bell quickly.  However I did wander about the night nurses, why they had become nurses. I was havingtrouble getting in and out of bed and really didn't have any strength in my upper body to pull on and they watched me try and not succeed and I almost cried in desperation.  Apparently you needed to be able to do it yourself (which I did when I got home and felt better)and failed to see why they watched someone drugged up and not showed compassion.  When I was nursing we certainly showed empathy.

however, glad to hear you ok.

Great to hear you are doing so well.  When you get home don't forget, little and often is the rule - a little sit down, a little walk around the house, a little lie down, a little chocolate (or a lot!), a little of the exercises and a lot of pampering.  Go for it.  Best wishes
