Hi I am on day 4 of 50mg sertraline and am experiencing terrible insomnia, so much so I was awake all last night as my brain was so active. His anyone got any tips or an idea of how long I should expect  this to last? Thanks.

Hey Claire, the first week I started taking sert I found it extremely difficult to fall a sleep, just tossing and turning all night because my brain was just wired. It eventually went away around week 2.

If you feel like you can't cope waiting for the insomnia to go away I would suggest talking to your GP, they could prescribe you a mild sedative to help you fall asleep faster.

What time do you take your sert? I found that taking mine in the morning improved my quality of sleep.

Thanks. I am taking my tablet in the morning and at the moment I am signed off work, so not an issue for the time being. I am due back in about 10 days so will see how it goes over the next few days.

Insomnia is a side effect of this drug. If insomnia is new to you, do you want to continue with the drug?

I have always been a bad sleeper but this is definitely worse, I will see how it goes over the next few days. Thanks for the reply.

Exactly what Christie.87 says.  I got a mild sleeping pills from the doctor on day 8, it worked, plus warm milk or hot chocolate at bedtime.

Hi Claire, I'm on day 8 and am currently getting to sleep but waking at least twice in the night. First few nights were horrendous though in that I only got a few hours sleep due to the Racing mind and thoughts.
