Hi all,  I need some advice.  I have been sober for 40 days and I have been doing great but in the past 2 days I have been thinking about a drink.  I am still doing all the right things keeping busy etc but this feeling is very strong.  Can anyone help?

This feeling is so strong that I have been thinking of stopping my antibuse.  I know it'll take at least 7 days to be out of my system but I'm so angry at not being able to have a drink.  I don't know how I'm feeling to be quite honest.  I think I'm losing it

Dear susiepie, I so, so feel for you...

Antabuse is a very powerful drug, I was refused it because I was highly likely to drink....SELINCRO..would be a much better ( and safer option ) for you...

I have been sober for nearly 13 yrs....but my god .....I still remember so well that dreadful, painful and so depressing awful cravings....but they do go eventually..

Arlington...on the other hand reduces cravings..there is also another drug called CAMPRAL.....

ask your Dr, I presume that you are under an alcohol specialist...

But please, please do not have any alcohol, the consequences can be very, very serious....

There is a specialist alcohol worker on this forum called PAUL..

he will give you excellent support and advice....

Please, never give up, it took me years and four MENTAL HEALTH SECTIONS, to give up, but my god !!! How my life has changed....I will be thinking of you, big, big hugs...and very good wishes to you...Deirdre xxx

Hi again Deirdre, I am on anti depressants too.  I am on Mirtazapine and have been for years.  I went to the doctor two weeks ago and he has increased the dose from 30mg to 45mg a day. xx

Well done! All I can say is the counsellor I saw who was himself 20 years sober said it was years before he stopped dreaming about beer. So I guess it's not unusual. Keep yourself busy and distracted and good luck.

There's a technique called "surfing" to help with cravings, if you've not come across it you can google it to get some idea of it
