Day 5 & feeling better... how do you know if you are over doing it?

After a terrible day 3....BM problems, I am feeling better and just wondering when standing up and doing a few light things how long should you stand up for?  I don't want to undo any of the surgery and be back in again.

I was 2 nights and 3 days in hospital. Then first day home I stayed upstairs in bedroom sitting up in bed. Then next day travelled 2hrs in car (passenger) to our beach holiday home. Stayed there next 4 nights and rested, but not in bed. Just indoors. Our apartment is on 8th floor facing gorgeous ocean beach so plenty of surfers, swimmers, boats etc. to watch. I'm not one to take to my bed EVER. So didn't really other than 1st day home. You know when you've over done things as you get worse pain back when it had been settling.

Thanks for your reply, day six today I feel compelled to help with preparing meals as I am normally the one who does it as I work from home.  My husband has his own electrical company and has a very physical job.  He leaves the house at 7.30 am and comes home around 4.30 pm totally stuffed,  Bed rest is very hard for me but I am trying to combine standing with sitting a bit too.  I am also the one who does all his company's office work (as he is a totaly dinosaur on the computer) so I am also still sitting a bit every day and doing computer work.  I hope this is all okay.  I don't have any lower back pain I just feel very full in my vagina and not sure if that is normal or not?

I don't think bed rest is particularly needed because you can rest just as much on a sofa but don't do too much.  If you need to help with meals make it minimum.  I really didn't do anything for the first few weeks.  I even had my husband put my socks on for me.  He was helping to dry me after the shower too.  And because we live in a bungalow I didn't need to do stairs or anything like that.  So do make sure you don't do too much.  I think resting well helps emotionally too because after a major op you are inclined to feel drained so give yourself the best chance of picking up as well as possible:-)

I think it's good to have a little wander around every hour but I wouldn't stand around for too long.  Sit and put your feet up, rather than stand.  I just think you'll be more comfortable like that:-)

My doctor said to do nothing....no lifting, standing too long, sitting too long....and I didn't feel better until week three. It has been four weeks since my surgery, but had a bad day yesterday with severe constipation and pain so bad I had to call the Dr.

    Praying that doesn't happen again.

The fear of constipation is the worst...  I know the pain you are talking about my third day home was the day from hell.  I am drinking so much water now (almost 3 litres per day) eating very light foods (not bread or rice) and eating about 3-5 prunes per day.  I am going to cut down today to day 2 prunes and see how I go tomorrow as it has been making me go a little too much I think.
