Day 5 on ametriptyline! Ringing in my ears!

Posted , 5 users are following.

Hi, I've been taking 10mg of Amitriptyline for 5 nights. Ever since I started I can hear ringing in my ears. It's more noticeable at night.

Has anybody else had this, I know it can be a dude effect but need to know if it will stop.

Don't think I can live with it if it's permenent. The tablets are making me feel awful so far.

If I stop will I be left with tinnitus?

I don't like it at all. Will it stop if I stop taking them or should I ask the doctor?

I've had it since last May maybe a chat with your doctor would help raise your problem But don't just stop taking it

Try ear plugs or cotton wool it. Works for me being using them for years as I'm a very light sleeper

I have irreversible tinnitus from working around loud construction equipment for years. I found an electronic device that plays ocean waves, the sound of a stream, and a few others. I listen to the ocean waves when I go to bed. It doesn’t stop the ringing, but it helps me. I’ve had tinnitus so long it’s become a normal part of life. When I was first was diagnosed with it, the Dr. suggested playing static on the bedside radio to drown it out. Never tried it. It’s supposed to help drown out the noise.

I was prescribed amytriptyline for a  miss-diagnosed nerve pain.  It resulted in me having constant and unwanted loud music in my head.  There is no control over this apart from having to use a radio at full blast to counteract the sound.  A little research on the internet, showed this as a well known, if fairly rare sympton of the drug.  It goes by the name of musical hallucination.  It is very distressing.
