Day 5 post op haemorrhoidectomy

So today is day 5 I had surgery on wed 21/8. Unfortunately for me pain started in recovery -i had local injections in rectum and a block during surgery however my sphincter went into spasm as soon as I woke up. I'm only 27 and had a mix of both internal & external haemorrhoids my surgeon found a number of large internals and one external. I fear every bowel motion the pain is pure hell mainly the burning after passing. Last night i had terrible wind and even farting hurt ☹ i have to rush and get bath on. I put local gel on before movement and try to take pain relief b4 hand. i have baby wipes and rectogesic wipes. After wiping i jump straight into bath. I also put local on and ice my bum. I wish i could just fast forward or be in a coma so I don't have to go thru this pain!! my neighbors must be concerned with the amount of moaning and crying during a motion.

Hey Sam,
I'm using Rectogesic cleansing wipes and Lidocaine/lignocaine jelly. I haven't been to the toilet today as yet. i might get a rude awakening over night. When did you have your surgery? Its exhausting hey??

The nurses suggested the lignocaine jelly you can get it over the counter. The chemist suggested the wipes to me and their also available without a script. I've upped my laxatives again no movement yesterday i took half the dose to give my poor bottom a rest! i saw my GP today and he changed my pain killers. He said the next week should be better made it through the worst. He also said to keep the baths/sitz up! Hope your feeling better!

I've been finding it hard to eat too! Been forcing myself especially in morning/lunch time i usually feel like food around dinner. I've been eating lots of blueberries, strawberries, apples Multigrain toast, soup and oats. I did treat myself to Gluten free carbonara very small serve! I have been eating less as I don't want to be pooping all the time too. Would love to have just one bowel motion a day!
I was also given two other names for wipes. I'll try and find them- I checked the packaging and the Rectogesic wipes are made in Australia so maybe not available/imported where you are. Surely there should be some similar product?
I'm glad you haven't been brought to tears yet today. Hopefully fingers, toes and all things crossed it gets better for the both of us!

To the extent you can, take hot (very hot) baths. I was taking 5-7 per DAY in the first 10 days after my procedure. The baths were better than any painkiller or cream.

Hi Jane i agree the bath has been my best friend. I did however almost overfill it i fell asleep with it on last night! I hate to think how much water I have used. i also purchased a sitz bath yesterday that sits over my toilet which is good

Yes the pain is out of this world but have to agree with alot of other people
HOT baths help, Xlyocaine really helped me, make sure your on a fiber diet and taking stool softener
I had both inner and outter hemorrhoids during my surgury i had 3 large ones removed and inner and outter stitches. if you have outter stitches the outter stitch will fall off and any access hemorrhoids attached to it. you can also use Tucks for sting or itch. but sometimes dont always use Sitz tends to dry out the area just take HOT baths ... you got this !!!!

Thanks Meaghan, I've stopped using salt all the time as I have started experiencing dryness. i can feel my external stitches more now. trying to get the right balance of stool softners I've been eating a lot of fruits and fiber full foods. 🙂
