DAY 6 FOLLOWING THR

Posted , 6 users are following.

Okay - I've taken on board the need to exercise and the need to rest - yesterday I did 3 or 4 laps of the bedroom on zimmer (does anyone else find a frame more useful than sticks?). I have such weak arms I find sticks hard to hold me up!  I washed myself and went up and down a flight of stairs.

Last night I was to tired I thought I thought I never recover and this morning I am so stiff and in so much 'stiff' pain I think I need spraying with WD40!  Between trying not to dislocate my hip, doing my exercises, resting, and avoiding blood clots I don't  know if I'm coming or going!!!  I wakened in the night and I COULDN'T MOVE lol - not!! I just don't want to get out of bed which is SO unlike me - I am generally the complete opposite!  I feel as though I should have a physio fairy on the wall dishing out hourly instructions - a pattern to to speak!  I am supposed to go to hospital physio next Monday on 2 sticks and show them all my exercises and I am DREADING it!  Am I the only clot who doesn't seem to be able to work a bed/sit/exercise/sleep regime out successfully?  Should I be going out of the house maybe?  ha ha - I'm also trying to take care of my housebound mum (91) by remote!  Thank goodness for online shopping and I have care going in but I know shenwillnhave deteriorated by the time I get to see hr again.  I do the frilly bits the nurturing as well as care.  Life's rich tapestry!

    Morning!

Well done you for getting moving.  Now the next challenge is to keep moving. I think I've said this before but I really couldn't have gone from frame to sticks as they felt wobbly but crutches are much more secure.  The transition from crutches to sticks is less dramatic.

Keep taking this painkillers regularly and use ice packs to keep swelling down and comfort levels up.

I was fairly rubbish for the first two weeks, Mumsy. Here is Cornwall we don't have to go to physio uness we refer ourselves - I didn't!

A friend said to me that the first two weeks are dreadful and after that something miraculous happens - she was right in my case. In those two weeks I could hardly pull myself off the chair/sofa/bed and always prided myself in being reasonably fit before.

I am 4 weeks today and what a difference, I am free walking around the house, can take stairs on alternate legs, pain relief is half and I can do some stuff around the house.

I still have a way to go, my consultant said it would take six months for muscles and ligaments to knit back and all I am contending with is pain in other places, knees, other hip etc. I also still need a little nap in the afternoon!.

Chill out, it will all come back  xxxx

Mumsy .... it is time to give yourself a pat on the back - to hug yourself for doing such a great job !!!

There is a topic running at the moment regarding the video of THR surgery on youtube -If you have not watched this and are not of the sqeamish kind, please take time to watch  it ... I was so impressed and humbled - so much more understanding of what is involved ... goodness ... what our body went through and the time and repair that needs to be done .....

ease up a bit, chill out sweetheart ...you can decide what regime (so military) you want to follow ... there is no one except yourself standing next to you with a whip of some sort .... again, you are so early post-op ...

I used a 4-wheel walker, aka as trolley which was recommended to me in stead of crutches, because I live alone ... it made me feel stable and safe ... especially going outside - little seat so I can rest -  but I live in a bungalow, so no stairs involved ...

Life is a rich tapestry that made, patches that made the wonderful person that is you

I know - I wish they had given me crutches - they wouldn't let me leave until I walked out on sticks so I did my Herculean moment (and hubby whipped the frame whilst no-one was looking!). Don't tell a soul!!!!

Day 6 is so early. I only came out of Hosp day 6 and of course luckilyvhad everything handed to me. I had to put a cotton slippy sheet on bed to get in and out of bed. I too was and still am so afrid of dislocation. 4 weeks post op for me its up dressed breakfast walk if dry . exercise a wee bit of housework dishes etc feet up for a while to get swelling down and the same routine after lunch.

I had to laugh at your reference to WD 40. First week home daughter brought wd40 to my bedroom because of squeaking door. She left it on the bedside table and my son asked if it was a good job for my hip. Think maybe he was serious.

Take things easy. That's why we are called patients.!!!!
