Day 6 Sertraline 25mg, feeling absolutely desolate.

Posted , 6 users are following.

Day 6 on 25mg and i feel so so down. I can't stop crying, feeling anxious & a dreadful feeling that something very bad is about to happen.

IT's NYE and I shouldn't be like this.

Scared to go up to the 50mg as they made me feel so nauseous when I tried a few weeks back.

Desperately awful now.

What's the point of it all. Damned if I don't take them, damned if I do..

Day 6 is really early to give upon them. Maybe take some pills for the nausea, take the pills with food or drink lemon and ginger? My first two weeks were in a haze, I was feeling weird also. I am on my fourth week and barely starting to feel better(I hope I don't jinx it) so you could hold on a little longer. It l is very soon to tell if they are good or bad for you. Good luck!

oh dee you poor thing. firstly take the pressure off yourself re the nye thing, in the great scheme does it matter if you do not celebrate it this year, secondly yes 6 days is too early to see if they are going to help you although I would say if you feel this rough then they are certainly doing something, no need to think about increasing until you have settled on 25, no need to worry that something bad is going to happen and no need to think you will ever be well again, you will, time and patience, hard I know when all you want is to be your normal self but there will be lots more nye's for you and happier times if you can just hang on, wishing you calm days ahead x

Please try to hang in there if you possibly can. Your doctor can probably prescribe something for nausea, like meclazine. It's a slow acting drug but the side effects should abate and if you give it time it should work.

    Hi Dee

Don't beat yourself up about nye it's soooo overrated!!

Day 6 is very early. I've been on sert since mid October and the first time I took 25mg I thought I was going to die. So my wonderful doc said I can start as low as an 8th of a pill if I want and build from there. So yes I started on an 8th of a pill for 3 weeks then upped and I'm now on just over 25mg and compared to my 1st experience I've had virtually no side effects mainly GI issues. insomnia here and there and some days are more anxious than others.. There's nothing wrong with going super slowly. It's better to not rush it and take the time you need. My body is so sensitive to these meds it's frightening.

Im not a Dr but I'd maybe chat to yours and see if maybe you start on a lower dose. Just cut the pills up.

Chat to your doc. And pls let me know how it's going for you!

To shed a bit of hope... Once the meds work it really is worth it. I'm not actually fully there yet but I had two weeks when I was on just 12mg that I felt amazing!!! I stupidly kept going and upped the dose and I'm still waiting to feel good again but that's another story for another day.

Hope this helped you a little xx pls let me know how you get on.

Hi dee firstly do not worry about feeling worse this is very common with any SSRI and from what Ibhave researched/being told Sertraline are one of th easier ones. It took me 2 months just to build the courage up to take them. I went on 50mg but decided to take them before bed and have an apple with them (dont know why, but an apple a day and all that)

Yes first 2/3 weeks I felt worse, woke up some nights almost in a panic and even now 7/8 weeks in I feel lightheaded occasionaly and my problem is weight gain (appetite has increased though) I literally just replied to alba and will tell you same

I went doctor today and had 3 options

    1. change tablets but "could" experience more and worse side effects (sertraline are given to pregnant ladies and children)
    2. give up and deal with anxiety (let it take over)
    3. carry on perservering and actually my doctor has doubled my dose to 100mg

I do have 2mg diazepam which helps the side effects so maybe asl tour doctor for 14 of these just take as and when needed, this has really helped myself. And will hopefully help whilst Ibup my dose.

Dont worry about 1 new years eve hoeepfully you have many more ahead of you and you shall be feeling alot bette. Keep strong and happy new year we are all here

Thank you for your reply. I will try to continue as its important i feel better in the long run.

So far my appetite has really gone down, but thats not so bad.

Will be scared when I go up to a full 50mg tablet as I tried that early December and stopped due to severe nausea.

Have to go back to work Thursday, now that is going to be a real challenge as I'm so fragile & tearful.

hi Dee, do not worry about going back to work, it is 2 days away and who knows you could be feeling a little better plus if you are like me I need the routine of doing something, it gives me something to focus on, a distraction and stops the endless hours of over thinking how I feel, I am not saying I made it in everyday, sometimes I got to work and had to come straight home again and some days I just sailed through take each day as it comes if you do go to work it is a victory, if you do not then write that day off and see what the next one brings, we can only do what we can do until we are better x

Thanks Sue, I think you are right. I do need routine and something to think about other than myself and all the stuff that can go wrong.

Just hope when I go up to 50mg I dont get worse!

I am sure you won't but if you do it should not last long but if it gets too unbearable you can always do what I did and drop it down, I went to 37.5, felt increased anxiety and sleepy for 4 days and then everything was ok. Have increased to 50 yesterday because although I am a lot better still feel a bit down and no motivation. Do not be in a rush to increase let 25 settle first

Check and see if you can get a prescription for the nausea. I agree upping the dose could help - but then you also need to give that a few weeks - sometimes there are side effects and a bit of an upheaval with a dose change but then it gets better.
