De-stiffing

Recently, when  I get up from sitting or lying my foot is stiff and  my knee locks up. My back spasms, as well.....although before my BA my back would spasm on occasion. Is there anything I can do to mitigate the stiffness?

Hi Zeldas, sorry to hear about your ongoing pains.  You don't say where in your back you get the spasm but I'm guessing it is very low on one side, just on the pelvic wall.  If it is, there's a good video on you tube by Athlean titled "How to Fix “Low Back” Pain" .  Both I & my wife have followed the exercises and found it worked well.

give it a look and I hope you get better soon.

    Hi Zelda,

Your stiffness and aches should go away in time.

For about a month after I started walking, I had some bothersome hip pains (I already had some very slight arthritis before accident). I unreasonably worried that I my injury was start of old-age arthritic symptoms, although I am not old.

With time, and with the application of stretching and movement exercises, the pains simply went away.

Given an opportunity, body will always seek balance and ease (the opposite of dis-ease).

So move those limbs and joints to grease and limber them up. I am sure that will help.

    Best wishes.

I find if I do a quick round of flexibility exercises before putting my boot on and getting up that will help to alleviate any stiffness. I also like to rub a bit of arnica gel on my ankle before it goes into the boot.

I haven't experienced any back spasms with this injury, but I have had them in the past (I have sciatica). When I get knots or stiffness in my back I like to press the spot into a soft tennis ball (I press it up against the back of a chair) - I find that helps to release the knot. Arnica gel can also help with that.

I hope you can get some relief!
