hoping someone can help?!? i have an upper lateral incisor that was root called a couple of months ago...... it wouldn't settle and caused further trial treatment to the two teeth either side. still no relief. if it has been root canalled how can it still feel alive? i feel as if there's infection somewhere as i can feel gunky stuff below and to the side of the nostril. on top of this every previous time this tooth was frozen my left lip and area above swells up!!!

my dentist can find nothing on xray and im starting to lose the plot completely?!!!

Any experience or suggestions would be EXTREMELY welcome. .......

Please go and get another opinion. Try going to a dentist that does reconstructive dental work. Do NOT ignore this. Your dentist is missing something. May I ask how old you are? And in the meantime go to the store and buy exerdrin migraine (can be store brand) as long as it has caffeine in it. The caffeine shrinks the nerves that causes the pain. Even if you are on a pain med try this. Trust me & if it Takes the pain away then you no it is still alive!

thanks for replying devon65701 😊 my dentist is one of the best, and I've been to specialist who suggested a bite guard, despite neither my dentist, another specialist or myself thinking this wouldn't help. im 37, and have a primary immune deficiency, hence my belief it's infection somewhere..... and doesn't show on xray and im constantly on antibiotics which can mask issues.

at this stage he's root canalled the 3 teeth in that area with no relief but is refusing to extract the most suspicious tooth in the centre as all appears ok. i just feel so lost in how to move forward and get relief 😦

No problem, I follow all dental. People don't usually respond. I have had alot of dental work done. I know how horrific the pain is & what it physically does to your ego, if your like me I am a tooth fanatic. Anyway I am stumped. I don't know or understand why he isn't looking further into this. And why a bite guard? Do you grind your teeth? And they think this is where the pain is coming from? So even if he is the best try (if you can with your type of insurance) to find out about other highly recommended dentists. I am not sure your pain level but mine at times was up to 9s 10s horrible. I would drop to the floor in excruciating pain my husband was helpless. I would always run into the bathroom and use Listerine that has alcohol in it. after that take-two Excedrin Migraine because of the caffeine in it, (I drink coffee all day & it's not the same as taking the caffeine in pill form) I honestly took everything, tried every home remedies, and every kind of narcotic & non narcotic pain meds. I can honestly say the migraine med helped me so so much! Ice was my friend too. 20 minutes on 20 off. So back to you try to get on top of this don't slack.

hi Devon65701, yes i would have the signs of teethgrinding in my sleep.... but they're from over 10years ago before my p.i.d diagnosis and I was riddled with chest infections. Each specialist seems to jump back to step one as in checking for tmj, nerve problems, salivary gland problems etc not one of them listen to how previous tests ruled things out and the fact i know there's infection as i can tell the signs. im stumped though because my face only swells when they freeze specifically the lateral incisor, which they never explain. i believe the infection is constantly draining/seeping out of my cheek or gum somewhere. As the sorest point is directly under my nostril, its in the soft gum tissue and not down on the hard gum. i can feel little lumps up the side of nose and under the cheekbone, and effects my eyesight and ear. i shake, cant. sleep, have headaches and palpitations. lymph nodes swollen too. ct scans of sinus are clear......

One emergency dentist mentioned the possibility of tooth absorption in the lateral incisor but my own dentist and the specialists have never commented. The shape of my face had drastically changed as in the skeletal features and it upsets me.

between them all I've lost all confidence in my own body πŸ˜•

oh no that is horrible I'm so sorry to hear all that. I would be very upset as well with the doctors not knowing what is going on. I don't know what to say because I have never had an issue like that. did you ever go to the ER and tell them what you just told me. where do you live?

i live in northern Ireland, my local hospital doesn't specialise in dental and the two specialists ive seen are in both the city hospitals ive attended. It may eventually come to me just landing into my local er and seeing what they suggest, or maybe try and get seem by the dentist that suggested root absorption... exhausted from it all, just wish my dentist would at least suggest possible ideas based on the symptoms i have. Thanks for listening tho ☺

Sorry I can't really help but just to say I had something very similar. I had a root cancel in an upper molar a few years ago (now use a different dentist). It's never been quite right and had pain on/off. Β Nothing could be found to cause the pain. A month ago I had terrible constant pain for a few days which painkillers didn't help with...yet again dentist could see nothing wrong, even showed me the x ray. The pain contined so after a 1.5 weeks I went and begged for it it be extracted. Β Hey presto, pain has gone (aside from the healing pain of course). Still no idea what was causing it.Β

thanks for ur reply puffle123... its actually reassuring to read that the same happened you but even better that u got relief!

my dentist just keeps sending referral after referral to supposed specialists.... who in turn fail to come up with any solutions 😈 its as if the infection is stuck way up under the nose and has no way out but as nothing showing on xray he's reluctant to extract. im being pushed beyond my limits and don't think a tooth is worth all this....... πŸ˜”

Poor you, I feel your pain! Β To be honest I couldn't have cared less whether there was infection or not...I was in agony which wasn't subsiding and that's all I cared about. My dentist also couldn't figure out why it hurt...although she was about to refer me for my jaw (as I clench, but not grind, at night). All I know is tooth out = pain relief for me. You'd think an infection would find some way of coming out and showing? Sorry I couldn't really help, but hope you manage to get sorted.

that's where things get complicated for me.... ive a primary immune deficiency which means bugs love me and my body can't fight certain bacteria so i have to rely on blood infusions πŸ˜• im always on oral antibiotics so that's possibly why nothing shows on xray.

im so pleased u got relief!😊 at least I know there's hope and maybe some light at the end of the tunnel!
