Dealing with HS

I’ve been dealing with what I think is HS since I was 14. I don’t get them as bad as I’ve seen pictures online, but I get these boils in my bikini/groin area, on my buttocks, and occasionally on my labia. I go through periods of having none and then one or two. Right now, I have one in my groin that’s not open. It’s just tender to touch. Do I just leave it alone? I’ve had one here before, in this same spot. About 2 years ago, I had one of these spots surgically removed with local anesthesia, because it wouldn’t go away. It’s location was about 1.5inches below where the current one is. They pathology of it came back as an abscess that appeared chronic in nature. After that one spot was removed, i didn’t have any more I it breaks for a year or more. It wasn’t as big as it is now, but I think it’s because I tried to mash it. Im just not sure what to do. There are not HS specialist in my area. Would I see a dermatologist for this? It’s sort of embarrassing so I’d like to find a woman doctor as it’s in close proximity to my genitals.

I would suggest that you see if you can find a dermatologist who has some expertise with it. It is a chronic condition and builds channels when left over time. But even removing lesions doesn't stop it in many cases. I sometimes get kenalog injections which takes them down in a day or so.

journal articles. I ended up deciding against surgery at the time, but now I know whom to see if I want to go that route. You might find a dermo the same way, looking at articles on diagnosis and treatment of HS that come out of your closest medical school.

Hi I would advise to see ur doctor. don't ever try mashing them as u put it as its only likely to cause more infection. It is embarrassing but ur not alone.. ive found that hot baths as hot as u can make them with salt helps ease alot
