Dealing with morning anxiety?

Posted , 5 users are following.

Hello!  Every morning I experience anxiety and tight/knots in my stomach.  It seems to calm down usually before noon, and the remainder of the day I’m ok.  I’m on Prozac 20mg (7-8wks).  I read that many others experience this too.   Any assistance is greatly appreciated.   Here goes...

- Will the Prozac eventually clear up my morning anxiety?  How much longer? Might I have to increase my dose?

- How do you manage your morning bouts of anxiety and stomach knots?

- I also have trouble with my sleep.  I wake up sometimes at 2am to 4am and can’t get back to sleep. Frustrating!

Thanks in advance for any thoughts or recommendations.   Wishing everyone well.

Hello, I'm afraid my reply may be rather short as I don't take prozac but other tablets. However, I felt compelled to respond as I also wake up  at around 4am, no matter what time I go to bed.I can never get back to sleep. I might as well get up as my anxiety, sometimes wakes me up as in my hearts pounding. You can't relax when your hearts pounding. My anxiety is also worse in the morning . This tends to be the case and affects many people. You're not alone. Donna xxx

Thanks Donna.  Yeah, I wake up about the same time as you.  Like clock work...   I get frustrated because I know I could use more sleep.  Being awake gives opportunity for my anxiety to get the better me.   Mornings are really uncomfortable.  Ugh!

I definitely agree with you. I'm the only one up at that stupid o'clock. I remember when I was a teenager living at home. My mum couldn't get me out of bed! Then when I was old enough to go to clubs and pubs, it was even harder! Oh those heady, carefree days! Xxc

Same goes for me.  I was thinking it’s an age thing (waking up early), but this is nuts. If I could sleep through to 6am I’d be overjoyed. But not to be.  Then the anxiety waves kick in.  Double whammy!   I just hope my meds calm this down for me, given a little more time.

They will hun, look, I know how how hard it is living with anxiety. I deal with it everyday. It's an everyday occurance for me. Apart from the morning, guaranteed, at some point during the day I feel shaky and gitterery. It's horrible, I hate it. I can never get used to it. Although, I try not to put any importance on it. And just let it pass. Message me anytime you need to, this way or privately. We'll both be up the same time, so anytime. Give your tablets time, they should work. Donna xxx

    Hey tsea

"Will the Prozac eventually clear up my morning anxiety?  How much longer? Might I have to increase my dose?"

You should ask a doctor rather than here. I think they can help you with this. Every drug has its side effects and don't take a chance to get in worse condition with increase your dose without doctor prescription.

Wishing you to get back normal soon.

This is good advice Kristenswan.  I’ll certainly inquire before I try anything on my own. Plus I’m concerned that if I were to increase my dose I would experience those horrible side effects again.  I want to avoid THAT if at all possible.   Thanks again.

DRs are tending not to prescribe ad due to their side effects and also ineffectiveness and difficulty in weaning off as can take two years.Same applies to 'anti anxiety' pills. CBT, Mindfullness, Yoga, Meditation are safer therapies.

Pauline - I’ve tried everything you list except for yoga.  I’m going to look into that.  Thanks.

Have had this too though feeling a lot better thanks to friends and the knowledge that counselling starts on Monday.  Also am eating regularly again.  A friend on Prozac took about 3 months to get settled.  And was on it for a year and now has strategies to waylay oncoming stress due to hypnotic counselling.   Good luck.   You may feel alone but as this website shows there are many of us.

Good to know CPGS21.  I was hoping hear something like this.  I pray the Prozac will continue to work and eventually settle down my mornings.  I want to feel “better” so badly.  This is so intrusive on my life.  Thank you and be well.
