Debilitating Brain Fog Please Help

Posted , 2 users are following.

I have been going through the worse debilitating thing I have ever endured. I had an epidural steroid injection in the lumbar spine on 12.8.2020. Since then I have developed a feeling as if I just came out of anesthesia like I am impaired. I have no idea what to do to stop it. I developed dry eyes.MGD.blepharitis. I felt systemically sick. I couldn't feel the back of my scalp as it was numb as well as my forearms. since then the numbness in those areas has subsided but I have that awful non functional feeling that I am stoned as other people describe it here. I've never done any type of drugs and a non smoker. No alcohol since Oct. 2020 and prior to that social drinker. My cognitive decline has ruined my life as I cannot concentrate any longer. I worked at a very good company in the finance department and had to resign because of this feeling. Can anyone please help me? Does anyone know how to bring myself back? I have had countless blood tests and 2 brain MRIs that show some changes that the doctors say is just age. Anything you can tell me or help me figure would be greatly appreciated.

I am so very sorry that you are going through this. I know how scary it can be. At times, I get the same thing happening to me. Mine is due to decades of intense anxiety and stress which wear on the brain over time. but the end result is similar to what you are going through. I decided I need to get serious about this and do something. It’s really difficult to find someone to help with this because doctors end up prescribing medication, counselors are good to talk to but I really needed someone to almost be a guide for me and show me what I needed to do specifically. haven’t really been able to find that person so I’m just basically going to do what I think is really important and what I know to be important as I was a former nurse.

The brain has what it’s called neuroplasticity which means that it is possible to change what’s going on and reverse things. Brain wants to heal it self but we have to take an active part in that.

Some important things A neurologist wants told me to do would be ......

    1. Stay hydrated! The brain is very sensitive to dehydration. I drink 64 ounces of water a day at least. this is calculated based on your weight.
    2. Exercise!this is very important because the brain needs an adequate supply of oxygenated blood. Getting in aerobic exercise whether it’s walking or whatever else at least four days a week or whatever you can do would be greatly beneficial.

I I have also started doing some light weight lifting with dumbbells, some yoga. I want to strengthen my body because there’s a saying that goes Strong Body Strong Mind! that is so true because when I feel physically weak my brain also feels the same way.

    3. avoid or eat very little red meat.eat healthy foods including Green leafy vegetables and cruciferous vegetables such as brussels sprouts, cauliflower, broccoli. they are very brain healthy! We don’t get enough servings of these things!
    4. if you can, get some counseling. I do this once a week virtually on my iPad and it works great. Having someone to vent to who can help and offer suggestions is a great idea.

6.do you things to relax your mind and avoid things that stress your mind. Some examples would be listening to relaxing music, going for a leisurely walk, make sure you throw in some laughter, being with family or friends, etc.

    5. avoid things such as the news, social media , Anything that is depressing. I had to force myself to do that but it’s worth it.
    6. it has been proven that meditation for anxiety or relaxation or whatever actually makes changes in the brain in a positive way. I try to do it twice a day especially when laying down to sleep. I also like the meditations and not worrying about the future.

I hope this helps a little bit at least. just take one day at a time and do a few of these each day. Some days are better than others but you’ll be making progress along the way. Feel free to message me anytime! ❤
